I’ve been doing a few things lately that have left my sons scratching their little heads:
Piggy back rides.
Races around the house. Inside and out.
Swimming at the YMCA’s “Family Swim.”
Running on the treadmill.
Shoulder rides.
Somersaults and cartwheels.
And swinging on our swings. Really high.
Taking Auntie Janie’s pups for long walks (and runs).
Yes, these activities I’ve been doing have left my sons scratching their heads. They’ve been used to PREGNANT MOMMY. I haven’t been able to chase and run and swing and roll with my sons like I have wanted to for the last couple of years. And for good reason… take a look at Alexander, Benjamin and Henry!
But now? Times have changed. Mommy isn’t pregnant. (YET!)
And my new goal? I want to run a marathon. Well… let me start with a 5K. That’s my goal for this March, to run in a 5K with my sons cheering me on. Showing them that being athletic was a huge part of my past.
So I took the first step this weekend…
I got myself some Nike sneakers. And now I’m going to start getting ready to kick a little ASS. Beginning with my own.

Check out this blog written by Kristin Armstrong (ex-wife of Lance Armstrong). http://milemarkers.runnersworld.com/. She began running 5 years ago and is now doing marathons–really got me excited to perhaps try a 5k myself! I found it very inspiring and funny too.
Good luck! I wish I had your motivation.
You go! I wish we lived closer, so I could have a running partner. I kind of got derailed after last week’s conference and sickness. Today I WILL run!! I like the shoes. I really need a new pair.
Running is one of those things that I have loved off and on over the years. I love the moments to myself while I’m out running. I love having a goal (5k…) and meeting it. I even have one half-marathon under my belt – I’m amazed to think about it even though I’m not sure that I want to go through that again! But the power of knowing that I did & I can keeps me going.
Have fun!
Good for you! My sistahs (i.e. bewbs) have always been too much for me to be a runner, but I’ll yoga in your honor.
You Go! My husband and I just started running 3 weeks ago and plan on doing a 5K on Thanksgiving day. We are doing the “couch to 5K”plan. It’s very “user friendly” if you are interested…
Good Luck!
I ran a 5K last April using the Couch to 5K and I highly recommend it! Best of luck to you!! I am going to start running again too – after our baby #4 arrives in December!
You are amazing.
That is awesome!!! You’re boys are so cute!!! I love that HARO picture in the previous post!
go you, love the shoes – unfortunately, I can only run in brooks adrenaline w/out getting shin splints (not the cutest shoe out there). My new loves, bodypump and gym childcare, have promised to keep me good company while hubby is deployed. I thought about doing the Houston marathon in January but much to my relief, it was sold out when I checked. I do not love running in the cold! I’ll be home w/ the kids for a couple wks in Dec, hope we can get together for lunch.
You go girl! It will be fun to watch your progress and congratulations on being 5 lbs away from your weight goal! That is awesome!
go, go, go!
Good for you! Are you going to do the couch to 5 K program? I love that one
