I agree with Sarah… it’s a place to escape. To write feelings and emotions and life.
I enjoy being on my blog and recording, well… history of my life and my family. I can print these out for my family and let them read the stages of my life.
Thanks for the question of WHY blogging? I often think… Why, not. To be able to write and write and write some more… it’s refreshing.
When I started my blog, I likened it to looking in windows as you pass them by. And I still feel that way. For me it’s also a great way to capture events, feelings, and reactions in the moment. (And, as someone who used to keep journals, I know the value of this.) Plus it leads me to places like this, where I can connect with others and delight in their stories.
We are, by habit, social creatures with an extraordinary hunger to remember and share.
Blogging allows you to document not only your moment but your opinion IN that moment, therefore remembering AND it can satisfy our innate social cravings through interactions with those who read us in a convenient and easy manner.
Eventually, given time, a blogger will undoubtedly find a circle of like minded people which will fulfill our inner desire to be part of a tribe like structure that gives us more social satisfaction and releases endorphins when we have a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, there are times when this may devolve into a pack mentality, but on those occasions we can simply unplug and walk away if need be.
Besides… how else could I possibly rationalize eating every brand of cereal known to man?
I think this is an amazing question. WHY? I am not married. I don’t have kids. I have me. I blog about me. My life. And it helps to go back and track my life. To see what is coming . What has happened. What I am. It’s my muse. You know? WHY? Because I choose to. It helps clear my head. It brings me to places I keep dark and hidden and let’s me explore myself and others.
Thanks for this.
GREAT question.
I blog b/c I live about 230 miles from my family and I need it to connect with them. To let them see photos of my son and daughter (I have twins) and to let them know how life is going for us. I think I was so hesitant at first about blogging b/c it’s truly this unknown place. Who is reading your work? Do they like it? And then I remember thinking, who cares. This is me. This is what I am. This is what I do. This is the mother I have become. And it’s a great outlet.
For me, it’s a creative outlet. I love to write and even before I started blogging, I was constantly composing things in my head that I wished to be putting on paper one day. I also don’t scrapbook so this is a way to preserve memories for my kids. That’s why I started.
Now, I continue because I’ve found a community that I adore. There are smart and amazing women out there that I never would have been able to encounter had it not been for blogging. I also discovered that I love writing more than I ever knew and I want to eventually turn writing into a career.
I’ve been using Live Journal for 9 years, so I’m not a stranger to online journaling. However, while I was on maternity leave, I started reading mom blogs and the thought of starting a blog of my own was sparked. I started back to work, forgot about it, then this summer, I stumbled across some mom blogs of some local bloggers. I started commenting on theirs and then thought, Why not?
And I love it! I love the connections, I love the creativity, and I love how my life has become richer for it.
I don’t blog. But I love to read blogs. You know, every time I read your blog I feel like I should write. I feel like I should blog. I love reading people’s blogs because it makes me think. Makes me want to write. I think it’s a great way to cleanse whatever’s on your mind. I’ve been mulling over some blog names. What I should write about. Perhaps you just unlocked the creative juice.
I tried/ am trying blogging for business and to keep others abreast about my growth and experiences, but required/requires a lot of planning and thought, to me, to make it meaningful… full time working mom of 6(yes, all mine, single births, 12 t0 2, 3 boys and 3 girls). I love reading blogs and marvel at all the followers- a whole new world, but , I must say,Twitter seems more doable for me, quick responses and quick replies good for this mom on the go and may just as well fulfill my purpose for blogging
~Because of naps and asthma (my son’s) some days we don’t get out much.
~I can be a mom and a business owner at the same time.
~I am inspired to be a better mom and wife almost every time I log on… and when I’m not being inspired, I’m shopping!!
[...] blog? Why travel? Jump to Comments I just came across a blog post that posed an interesting question: Why? A few people left comments sharing why they blog. [...]

Because being human means wanting to be an active part of a community, and that means having conversations.
Also because I can’t knit or tap-dance, and you’ve got to keep busy!
Hmm… if I had to answer WHY…

Creative outlet.
Reminder of my life.

I answered that on my own blog today: because I’m a people addict.
