This week’s round-up of important/useful/interesting/fun pet links:
- The recent salmonella investigation involving peanut butter products distributed through the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) has affected the pet industry, too. PetSmart is keeping its customers updated on the voluntary recall of several of the products they carry that contain peanut butter, as well as other facts about the recall. Read more here.
- PEOPLE has created a community for pet lovers, aptly named PEOPLE Pets. Register (it’s free!) and create profiles for your pets, connect with other pet lovers, read up on celebrity-loving pets, find cool new pet products, and get lots more pet-related news.
- Yesterday, I blogged about my issue with the American Kennel Club and the Today Show for promoting the AKC’s list of Most Popular Dog Breeds. One of my commenters, Jen, summed up my sentiments exactly: “Especially in economic times such as these, the media should promote adopting [rescued] pets, especially when a lot of good family pets are abandoned due to foreclosures, etc. in shelters.” Well said, Jen!
- Oregon Live has an interesting article about the link between secondhand smoke and an animal’s health. Food for thought next time you light up around your pet. Read the article here.
- Giveaway time at Dogster! You have until January 26 to enter to win a handmade dog bowl from Debby Carman, who was recently commissioned by 20th Century Fox to make several hundred dog bowls for the premiere of Marley & Me. Contest details can be found here at the Dogster blog!

Just left this comment on your other post, then ironically saw you mention People Pet’s on this post so I thought’d I’d comment here too.
I just came across this a minute ago on People Pet’s:

Good point Jane about the Today show. It seems that the media mostly forgets to talk about rescue aminals, until it is in vogue. Except for Pedigree, it seems everyone forgets about the shelter animals. What ever happened to those Pedigree commercials? They actually made me cry.
I love Debby Carman’s dog bowls! They’re so adorable. I also agree with Steve both about your post (such an important and too often overlooked topic) and the Pedigree commercials!
