The Doghouse

I’m not one that usually falls for ads. Really, I’m not. But this past Christmas my husband asked me if I had seen JCPenney’s new campaign called, “Beware of the Doghouse.”

I hadn’t. He told me it was one of the funniest videos he had ever seen. Not to mention (sorry, honey) just how true it is.

The premise? Don’t get your wife something meaningless for ANY occasion. Ever. Ever. Ever. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if my husband just wrote me a love letter for Mother’s Day or for my upcoming birthday. I love gifts from the heart. And there’s nothing sadder than seeing my husband so excited before I open a gift… and truly just not sure if he is about to hit or miss.

So my advice!? How can I possibly find some fashion advice from the JCPenney Beware of the Doghouse campaign?

EASY. It’s actually from MEN themselves. I sent out an email to bounce some ideas off my male friends yesterday… and asked them, “What would be one piece of advice you would like from your wife as special occasions approach?”

You know what a majority of men said?

“The proper sizes – for everything. Clothing, rings, what kind of necklaces/bracelets they prefer, favorite colors and styles.” And not only that – books and movies, too.

These are things some men are clueless about. So take this advice… share your preferences and sizes and styles with the men in your life. Keep HIM out of the doghouse. We all know it’s the thought that counts… but they don’t like seeing us return things, just as much as we feel bad about doing it.
