A "fitting" question!

A question was emailed to me from a Tammy Brootner (thanks for letting me use your name!) from Indiana.

“What is the rule of thumb when it comes to hemming your skirts? I do all of my own hemming, as to save money.”

Tammy, GREAT question! Skirt hems should be parallel to the floor. I remember my mother used to always tell me that as a teenager. As I’ve mentioned before – with my height (5 feet!) I need to get everything hemmed, even skirts and dresses! If you’re doing the hemming yourself, make extra sure that the hem is super-straight. There’s nothing worse when a hemline is crooked. Straight and parallel to the floor – key components.

  • I think the length of the hem depends on what you want the skirt for. Summer or winter; formal or casual.

Keep in mind what shoes you’ll wear with the skirt when you’re picking a length!
