I was reading Tim’s message and for some reason the Tangerine flavor makes my tongue bleed as well. It’s strange at first I thought perhaps it came from my teeth but at a closer look my tongue was bleeding. I contacted the manufacture which happens to be Dreyer’s on the west coast and Edy’s on the east coast. There certainly wasn’t a piece of glass in my fruit bar, so what ever makes it bleed I hope to find out soon.

I found a mangled up gold earring in a Goldfish Cracker, once…it still had the back-piece on. I cried a bit, thinking of exactly how it had gotten there from some unfortunate ear.

I love these fruit bars too (strawberry is definitely my favorite as well!). But it’s scary how these things can happen. Thanks for the information! I hope your tongue is feeling okay. I will definitely be on the lookout from now on.

Wow, I just found your post because my wife’s tongue started bleeding while we were eating the tangerine kind and I was doing a search to see if it’s happened to anyone else. Nice pictures. We didn’t see anything in hers other than the fruit. It’s our first time trying the bars and I have to agree that they do taste good. Tomorrow I’ll be trying the strawberry one.

Just to let everyone know, I did contact Edy’s at edys.com, posted a detailed comment and linked to my post. The site is very welcoming and encourages accuracy by asking specifically for UPC Code, Best-by-Date info and Manufacturing Code. I still have the box and all the information is clearly printed and detailed, enabling me to pass it along. Again, I thank Arkie Girl for taking the time to comment. Whether there is or isn’t another splintered fruit bar stick out there somewhere, Edy’s will be able to address the problem in the most specific way. This makes me feel rather good about food manufacturing. I will let everyone know when I hear from Edy’s. In the meantime, it’s breakfast time… and I’m off to have an Edy’s Strawberry Fruit Bar!

UGH! I love these and we have them in the freezer quite often. Sorry you were “bitten” by the fruit bar and thankful that it wasn’t a little one!
I’m always so careful with my kids and food. I recall my youngest daughter having a little bag of Smartfood popcorn at a school function several years ago. She said it tasted “icky” and we found a DIME in her mouth. Somehow they were throwing money in the bags? Not likely…but it made me very aware after that.

Great post. Now I’m hungry.
