Ralph Lauren's Spring 2010 Inspiration: The Grapes of Wrath

Fashion Week – This is the first photo I remember seeing of Ralph Lauren’s SPRING 2010 show in Women’s Wear Daily -

And my first reaction was — “Oh, please… not the overalls. Not again.” I wore overalls while I was pregnant with William and Alexander, and that was enough for me. They were the perfect maternity essential for me because I felt comfortable, and the more weight I gained, the more I felt like the overalls were hiding it. So, my first reaction to the overalls was not a good one.

Then I read about Ralph Lauren’s inspiration… The Grapes of Wrath.

Ralph Lauren drew on the hard-economic times and allowed the journey of Grapes of Wrath to follow him along. All of his clothing is very much based on working class heroines… and it’s beautiful. I love the clothing, I love the connection from past to present and I loved the overall feel of the show. It was American classic perfection.

Each designer needs to draw on something to create… and I love the creation story behind Ralph Lauren’s SPRING line.

Personally, I feel the floral dresses are PERFECT attire for mothers. Easy. Romantic looking. And sophisticated elegance.
Maybe not the most suitable fashion for moms… but I think they’re incredible.

    Love the floral dresses – and those combined with the denim jacket is a classic combination that works for many women.

    A big fat NO for me on the overalls though – no way, not ever lol!

    I also like the dresses, and also dislike the overalls with a passion. I also wore overalls when pregnant with my now-5-year old, and when I look back I do so in horror. I hope to never put another pair on, but I guess we all know how trends go…

    Oh Love love love this! I am all about comfort, so this is perfect for me! And really, I wouldn’t mind wearning a pair of overalls!

    This is one of my three favorite lines ever of Ralph Lauren’s. I love the inspiration…think it’s genius. I was at a trunk show and lusted after the dresses AND the overalls…I adore them and can’t wait for a pair.
