Boyfriend Trend?

I got this question a couple of week’s ago from a reader… (she told me I could use her name!):

“Is the boyfriend jean still in style? I wanted to buy myself a pair of boyfriend jeans, but I’m not seeing it too often now.” – Jessica from Newark, NJ.

Well, Jessica… I hate to tell you – but it seems the boyfriend jean has been replaced by the skinny jean. The boyfriend jean was “hot” late summer/early fall because boots weren’t “in season” yet. Women were wearing ballet flats and flip flops with their boyfriend jeans. Now that boots have “hit” the trend-zone… riding boots, slouch boots, cowboy boots, etc… women are wearing their boots over their jeans (much like last year). There are still some boyfriend jeans out there if you’re looking for some… and you may get lucky and find some at a good price.

My advice… if you’re looking for some good jeans to invest in, grab yourself a boot cut pair. (It’s pretty much all I own.) You can wear flats, heels, boots and sneakers with them… extremely versatile (essential for a mom).

  1. I completely agree with the boot cut. It’s all that I own, along with flare (just a bit wider cut than the boot cut). The tapered jeans look ridiculous on anyone and unless you’re a size 0, skinny jeans do not work either ;) I even get flare and boot cuts for my 6 year old :)

Well I always someone who bought bootcut jeans but I recently heard on Oprah that if you are under 5’3 and a bit heavier on the top you should go for straighter leg. Haven’t tried out the straight leg yet but I plan to go to Nordstrom and buy a pair soon!
