In continuing my Friday series… Fashion Profiling some of my FAVORITE Bloggers… I reached out to my good friend Lori Falcon from A Cowboy’s Wife and My Wooden Spoon.
The amazing thing about the blog world is that you get to meet people you never would have met in “real life”… Lori is one of them for me. We met online and became fast friends. One thing that has always intrigued me about Lori is the fact that she does… indeed, live on a ranch and is married to a real life cowboy (and has 3 “son” cowboys!). Her style reflects this, and I think it’s incredible. Lori’s personal blog, A Cowboy’s Wife, is all about her ranch life, kids, health & fitness, and photography. Her food blog, My Wooden Spoon, is where she shares family recipes and her passion for food photography. Lori is a Kraft Velveeta Ambassador and Spokesblogger, Lifetime Moms Food Editor and one of Walmart’s Eleven Moms. Not to mention, an amazing friend.
Where do you live?
Home of the Largest Rattlesnake Roundup in the World–Sweetwater, Texas
(That alone deserves a yeehaw doncha think?)
What is your everyday attire on the ranch?
It all depends on what I know I’ll be doing that day. If I know I’ll be
sitting my fat behind in the house all day, I wear yoga pants and running
shoes. If I know I’ll be out and about on the ranch (pretending I’m working
hard), I’ll wear boots and jeans.
Does everyone own cowboy boots?
Yes, all five of us. Mine aren’t punchy like theirs but they get the job
done. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t own a pair of cowboy boots…except
for some of you city folk in New York or maybe even Rhode Island?
What’s the secret to finding “real” cowboy boots. Can a Texan spot
“fake” ones a mile away?
Pretty much yes, “fake” cowboy boots can be spotted easily. The thing is,
you don’t find real cowboy boots in any store, you order them handmade to
fit your foot. Boot makers keep templates of your foot for reference later
on. An average pair of handmade boots run at about $600 but they last
forever. If I had to recommend store bought cowboy boots, I’d tell ya
Ariat, Twisted X, and Tony Lama. For the ladies, whatever looks purty;)
Your husband’s a real life cowboy… does his style influence you?
Good lord no! If I did, I’d be dressing like we were in John Wayne days!
While I tend to dress ranch like here and at rodeos, I prefer a dressier
business casual look anywhere else.
What are 5 of your MUST HAVES for ranch living?
Boots –It’s a lot easier to get cow crap off your boots than it is your
tennis shoes or flip flops.
Jeans –A good pair of straight leg jeans that can be easily tucked in your
boots.
Pony Tail Holder –When you’re dealing with cows and horses, the last think
you need to worry about is your hair in your face!
Cap/Hat –Ranch livin’ requires you to be outdoors 24/7. Unless you want
wrinkles from squinting all the time, get a hat.
An Appreciate for Cowboy Life –It’s a hard life. It can be lonely, leaving
you feeling excluded from the rest of the world but the working cowboy
lifestyle has this amazing code of ethics. It’s workin’ hard, livin’ right,
and it’s a creed that we all live by.

what a great post! My first duty station after college was in San Antonio and the first thing I did was get a pair of boots (mine weren’t $600 though!) they are still the most comfortable footwear I own, they are all beat up, I get compliments on them all the time, and I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent two-stepping in them at Nashville Waikiki (as ridiculous as the name sounds, it is, in fact, a country bar in Waikiki). I even almost wore them under my wedding dress. I’m not kidding. Lori, I love your 5 must-haves! We’re moving to TX in less than 3 years and our dream is to have land and become as self-sufficient as possible (aka: work. hard.) Can’t wait to check out your blog!
