Forget the LBD. Bring on the LWD (Little White Dress)!

There’s one thing in the fashion department that screams summer — dressing in summer whites!

I remember when I worked for Donna Karan, she’d shift to summer whites as soon as the summer heat began to sizzle. Her clothing was a combination of being lightweight, almost gauze-like and fabulously free-flowing. It was fashionably-inspirational.

Everyone talks about the LBD (Little Black Dress) being the essential piece every woman needs in her closet. I absolutely agree with this advice. Every woman should have a LBD that fits them beautifully and that can be worn for a variety of different events and occasions. It’s one of those “smart” pieces to own. I just think there’s a time and a place for the LBD.

When it’s the summer – go for something a little different. When the sun is shining bright and the temps are in the 80s… ditch the LBD and bring on the LWD (Little White Dress). Usually I try and stay away from wearing whites because of the stain factor. With 4 sons, it’s not so easy staying (and being) stain free. I had maple frosting all over me yesterday thanks to a Dunkin Donuts maple-frosted donut! But when summer fashion calls, sometimes you just need to fashion-sacrifice. Bring. It. On.

1. They’re very crisp looking. You can get any style LWD and still look clean and crisp. It definitely exudes summer fun.
2. You can find LWDs with some gorgeous added-detail to give it that extra something-something factor.
3. There’s no need to worry about the latest trends and styles with a LWD, it’s ALWAYS in-style and in-trend. These are the exact kind of pieces us moms want in our closest, there’s no thought process with it – it’s easy and it’s fashionable (a great combination).
