APRIL SHOWERS bring WORD POWERS! Teaching vocabulary words to kids with a dose of fun in just 5 minutes

SHOWER your kids with awesome WORDS during the month of APRIL. 30 Days, 30 Words.

April Showers bring work powers

Join in the fun of discovering interesting, intriguing and sometimes even rarely used WORDS.

Today, let’s discover the rarely used word crinigerous.

crinigerous is an adjective meaning hairy or bearing hair, pronounced kri-nij-er-us. What kid doesn’t like WORDS about things like hair?

And what makes words obsolete, anyway?

Well, people simply don’t use them for awhile and they “fall out” of general use.

I say let’s bring back crinigerous because it’s a great word to say, to know and to use.  Use crinigerous to describe an animal, an insect, a man’s face (or, ahem, back), a werewolf or story character.  Look around today with your kids or students and find crinigerous things, crinigerous people and maybe even crinigerous legs.

Remember that LITERACY is all about WORDS – Written.  Spoken. Felt.

If you get kids talking about WORDS, laughing about WORDS and having fun with WORDS, you’ve put them on the LITERACY TRAIN to lifetimes of adventure.
