The Waxing of the Lip – How to keep the bumps away

It’s not pretty.

It’s not even something I like to admit.

But… it is what it is.

I HATE lip hair. I do. I hate it.

My mom and my sister were blessed with blonde leg hair, blonde arm hair and yes… even lip hair.

Saying it lightly… I was not so lucky.

Dark leg hair. Dark arm hair. Darker (ahem…) lip hair.

I was recently asked by a reader if I wax or pluck or laser any hair on my body.  I have to admit, I’ve never waxed, lasered (is that a word) or (oh, my) plucked anything lower than my chin. That I promise. I think I’m more scared to do it than anything! But the true question from the reader was…

Audrey – Can you recommend any cream that you could use after waxing to prevent redness and bumps?

I have become a bit of an expert in this department. 😉

I get my eyebrows waxed every other week and I (oh, yes…) get my upper lip waxed once a month. It’s not always pretty… but it’s something that (I have faced facts) needs to be done.

I have to admit… I swear by Hydrocortisone Cream.  It comes in ointment, cream, lotion, liquid, gel, medicated cloth towelette, and spray for use on the skin. I use the cream after I get a waxing, just a little bit… just enough to lightly coat the area and I have never, ever had any outbreaks or continued redness. I once used the lotion that the woman who waxed me had that day available and it absolutely irritated my skin (till this day I don’t know what it was), so I do want to preface that creams and lotions have different effects on different people. For me, someone with very sensitive skin… Hydrocortisone has been my best bet and option.

I’ve always been someone who has been fully aware of any unwanted hair on my face, so I’ve become a pro at going consistently… but remember – your lip is such a sensitive spot, so beware and make sure you bring ice cubes with you if it’s your first time!

It may sting a little! 😉
