NO ELECTRICITY on Day 2 didn’t sound so bad.

NO ELECTRICITY on Day 2 didn’t sound so bad.

This is what NO ELECTRICITY looked like on Day 2 of the aftermath of Hurricane-reduced-to-Tropical Storm Irene here in Rhode Island… Yep.  That’s Audrey hauling arms-ful of sleeping bags into our home on Monday night. The pillows and all-important blankies would be hauled in next. Barry and I supplied the sheets. Oh, did I mention that our electricity popped back [...]

Day 3 of NO POWER 1

Day 3 of NO POWER

Still no power. Woke up this morning holding my breath that we’d have it. No. LUCK. It was “fun” before, now it’s just a pain in the butt…

How kicking it old school kept me occupied during Hurricane Irene… and beyond!

When we knew Hurricane Irene (or at least a lot of its wind and rain) was going to hit us here in Rhode Island, Brian and I figured that with 3 different places we could call “home” in our town, at least one of them might be spared a power outage. We have: 1) our own apartment; 2)Brian’s parents’ house; [...]

What to do with NO power at 9PM – Just DANCE!

OK… so it was a LONG day yesterday without power.  It was on when I woke up yesterday morning, but around 7:30AM it flickered off, then back on… then back off – for good.  I kept hoping it would go back on throughout the day, especially as the nighttime rolled in.  Well, it didn’t.  So what do you do with [...]

What to wear when the power is OUT!

I’m assuming tomorrow I will have NO power.  I’m already terrified about the possibility because I NEED power in my house! So I thought I’d have a little fun this morning (on Hurricane Sunday!) deciding what I would wear tomorrow without the power… because I won’t be concerned with matching! As a matter of fact – I’ll probably just pull [...]

And hello, Irene… we’ve been waiting for you. 4

And hello, Irene… we’ve been waiting for you.

Thursday and Friday were stocking up on all kinds of things for the hurricane days… milk, eggs, bread, water, non-perishables, batteries and games… Saturday was all about outside… storing and securing deck furniture, flower pots, decorative lawn stuff and anything that can fly in high, damaging winds. And bringing my Mom to our home.  Rita is 86 years old and [...]

Hurricane Irene begins with a little squirt… !

Getting ready for a hurricane is no fun. Unless you get a visit from a son and son-in-law to help store all of the outside stuff that you don’t realize you have until it’s time to safely stash it from a hurricane… Strong man Matthew… admired by Audrey!   and a visit from 7 grandchildren AND a big red bowl [...]

Getting ready for Hurricane Irene 1

Getting ready for Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene is THE hot topic in Rhode Island these days. You can’t turn on any of the local television stations without full coverage of the storm all. the. time. So it’s weird to me that it still hasn’t hit us yet… and it’s not even supposed to until tomorrow afternoon. When my friend Jo-Lynne posted this on Facebook this [...]

Preparing for Hurricane Irene

Well… she’s almost here. I haven’t been in a hurricane since I was about 12 years old, so this is HUGE in Rhode Island.  We’ve had tons and tons of warnings and watches throughout the last 20 years, but nothing (I mean, nothing) this severe.  We’re trying to get prepared as best as we possibly can.  We have our checklist: [...]
