Then I took her to a gourmet supermarket kind-of place and I bought all the food for her birthday dinner at my home.  I got all the things she loves… fresh fish, salad ingredients and strawberries for her favorite dessert – strawberry shortcake.  I even bought Bisquick to make homemade biscuits.  When we got back to my house, my mom settled into her favorite chair and read for the rest of the afternoon. Everything was peaceful and warm and perfect….

Then my mom smelled the deliciousness of the biscuits… and it was a reversal of roles.  I remember when I was a little girl and my mom was making biscuits.  I would come from wherever I was to watch her measure and mix and spoon the gooey mixture onto the waiting cookie sheets.  I would peek into the window of the oven to see them rise and turn golden brown.  And the aroma!

And here I was making these delights for my mom.  It felt so good, so wonderful to return these memories!  Then I cut the strawberries and sprinkled them with sugar to make them extra juicy.  I wanted them to be perfect for this perfect day.

When Barry arrived at home, dinner preparations began in earnest… and soon our birthday feast was ready.  My mom, Jane, Barry and I savored each moment, each morsel.  Then it was time for dessert… for the strawberry shortcake.  I covered hers with whipped cream and put in a little yellow candle for a special wish…

And my mom’s 84th birthday was official!

I thank God each day to have my mom in my life.  And I wish that everyone has something as memorable and as special and as fulfilling as a chunk of strawberry shortcake to make life, well… full circle.  Complete!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!  I love you!

There were about 100 pieces of tape on it, so I know they definitely “helped” my husband wrap it up… and the smiles on their faces as they gave it to me – PRICELESS.

I saw my husband in the corner of the room wink at me… so I “knew” that whatever was inside the package was from the BOYS.

And there it was… a Strawberry Shortcake tank top. Girls size 10 (bless their little hearts!).

And this is why today’s Fashion Advice for Moms is — sometimes there are just FASHION MUSTS… ! Wear them proud. Just wear them at home! ;)
