Grandma 101

I’ve been a parent for decades.

I’ve been a grandparent for 7+ years, eight times over.

Wouldn’t you think that by now I’d have learned a thing or two about contradictory messages and rhetorical questions? Well, no. I haven’t.

For example, just this morning IN MY CAR I handed chocolate covered doughnuts to my my 2 and 3-year old grandsons as I said, “Now don’t make a mess.”

What?

Chocolate. Kids. Car. Contradiction.

Then I actually found myself saying, as I detected the chocolate paradise via the rearview mirror, “Are you guys making a mess back there?”

Ah… a question to which no logical answer is expected.

Can someone offer me some training?

  • LOL… Catch 22 huh? I catch myself doing that quite often. Don’t make a mess with your snack… well why let them eat in the living room mommy. OH well they are only little once right?

I say you don’t need any training.. I’m sure you are a pretty rocking Grandma :)

  • You let them EAT THEM IN THE CAR?

yeah, you’re crazy LOL Only grandparents get away with that kind of thing.

I find myself yelling over the yelling to tell them to stop yelling.

    Huh? LOL

  • LOL! Am I the only one that had to look at the photo for about ten minutes before figuring out what it was? Yes…I thought so. :) (Why does my mind always go THERE)

  • Oh Jane! I’m sure they loved you for allowing them to do that! =)

  • Sharon, I just wanted to say you are an awesome lady, mom and grandma, daughter, sister and friend. Those in your life are blessed to have you.

I pray your day is filled with all that you seek.

  • lol! When will we learn? I actually let myself believe that a popcicle while all dressed up wouldn’t be a problem for my 3 & 5 year olds if they just stayed in their chairs. I wish I had had my camera.

  • Old fashioned donuts, no powder.
