Handsome!

Audrey’s second little guy, 3-year old Alexander, is in a phase where he will wear nothing but a 3-button rugby-style shirt.  He calls them “handsome shirts.”   He does allow a handsome shirt to be worn over a long-sleeved shirt at the insistence of Audrey on these cold winter days, but he will not go anywhere without a self-defined “handsome shirt.”  (By the way, Audrey has no idea where or why or how Alex picked up his “handsome shirt” fashion need.)

Yesterday was Pajama Day at William and Alex’s pre-school.  All the kids wore pajamas to school and all the activities revolved around sleep and just waking up.  They even made pancakes and ate a pajama-breakfast at school.  I went with Audrey to pick up the boys because they were so excited about this day and I wanted to see all the cuteness for myself.  It was beyond adorable seeing all the kids so excited about this unconventional activity…

On the way home, I turned to the back seat and said to the boys, “You guys look so cute!”  William had on his flannel pajamas with rocket ships and planets.  He smiled the biggest smile.

Alex, on the other hand, looked distraught.  He looked down at this flannel pajamas with the horses and cowboys and said, “My pajama shirt has buttons.  It’s not cute.  It’s handsome.”

“Oh, of course,” I said.  “I was just about to say how handsome you look.”  My quick recovery was more than acceptable, and Alex smiled the rest of the way home.

I wish I could bottle the cuteness… I mean handsomeness of these precious days in the life of a grandparent!
