Simple Indulgences

I recently read that even in these tentative economic times, the cosmetics industry may enjoy increased sales.  It’s known as the Lipstick Effect, a trend first recognized during the Great Depression when women purchased even more cosmetics and the-like… simple indulgences that brought a little joy, a little color and a bit of fun during tough times.

I found this very interesting because, in the last week alone, I’ve picked up some fabulous nail polish, beautiful blush and shimmery lip gloss.  And you know what?  These simple indulgences have brought a little joy, a little color and, I must say, a ton of FUN!  It just feels good to open a brand new glittery little cosmetic item and watch it transform something… even if it’s just my lips, my cheeks or my toes!

What’s your Lipstick Effect Simple Indulgence?

I’m not much on make-up. It’s not a philosophical stance; I just don’t have much of a flair for applying it.

My special indulgence is in purchasing the finest cross-stitch supplies possible. Stitching, especially when hooked into my i-pod, is Nirvana.

I don’t know if I can count makeup as a simple indulgence, because I spend way too much money on makeup!
So, my simple indulgence is Starbucks! Before I was pregnant, I would treat myself to an iced caramel macchiato every Friday. Now that I’m pregnant, it’s a decaf vanilla iced latte. I miss the caramel!

Funny you should mention this! I just placed an order with my Avon lady for several lipsticks and nail polishes. I can’t wait to get them and have a little perk me up! I love the lift a new cosmetic item can give you.

I secretly love to watch my fingers type when they are painted with a new nail color!

Since my make-up of choice is a bit costly, I don’t indulge too often. Although I do have a coupon right now, and just might head to the store! I was recently able to get a free bottle of OPI (I am the coupon queen!) and I got a ridiculously brave color I’m saving for my cruise in 4 weeks: My Chihuahua Bites. I guess I should use the other coupon to get some great sparkly lipgloss for with my polish! It’s our 16th anniversary we’ll be celebrating.

Too funny. I just bought new eyeliner and mascara the other day.
