I blogged a couple of weeks ago about Donna Karan and her creation of the 7 Easy Pieces. For mothers, there’s nothing like finding an item of clothing that can be utilized in a variety of different ways. I love giving the example of the basic white button-down blouse because it can be worn in so many different ways – with jeans, with trouser pants, under a blazer, with a vest, with leggings and a belt, with shorts, with capris… it’s just one of those staple pieces because the uses of the white blouse are incredible.
I have come across another fashion true gem – Norma Kamali’s All-in-One Dress available (for literally $20) at Walmart. Now, I know what you’re thinking… a dress for $20 that I can use over and over AND it’s good quality? Yes, to both. I promise – when it comes to fashion, I don’t recommend just anything.
I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing Norma Kamali’s Spring 2010 Collection in NYC during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Norma spoke about creating clothing that could be described as timeless. I loved hearing her speak because she truly believes that every woman needs and deserves to feel and look beautiful… and to accomplish this, she needs to invest in timeless, classic pieces that will take her from season to season. The creation of the All-in-One Jersey dress is Norma Kamali’s genius. I have to say, I love it.
What you get is a Little Black Dress. On the rack, it’s a basic long-sleeved, boat neck style with a stretch liner. Worn like that, possibly with a belt to cinch your waist, would look chic and hip… but it’s the creations beyond that classic simplicity that will leave you wanting one (and more!).
Watch what you can do with this ONE Little Black Dress from Norma Kamali:
Strapless Mini Dress (put both arms through the neckline and tie sleeves in front or back)
Strapless Longer Dress (again, put both arms through the neckline and tie sleeves in front or back)
Halter Dress (arms through the neckline and tie the sleeves around your neck)
Cross Halter Dress (do the Halter tie, but twist the straps before tying)
One Shoulder Dress (put your left arm through the neckline, wrap the left sleeve around the waist and tuck into the wrap)
Seriously… not bad for $20.
wow – do you remember what we paid for a Norma Kamali in the 80’s?!….well that was probably before your time….but wow!
I so love this dress. I have to add it to my list of things to buy. And all the ways to wear it is great!
that is amazing! i want one!
“Fertile Mind” does the exact same dress but in a maternity version. It is pretty well known here in Australia (as a LOT of pregnant ladies have it). Don’t know if you have it in the states.
