Holiday Inn State-cation – BOSTON STYLE.

The Holiday Inn invited me and my family to take a State-cation in Boston, MA the weekend of Dec. 18th.

What I loved about it being in Boston was that it was only 55 miles away. That’s not bad at all. So off we went…

As we pulled up to the Beacon Hill Holiday Inn… I (quite frankly) could not get over how beautiful the hotel was. It was a cold night… and as we drove up, there were gorgeous Holiday decorations and lights everywhere. It was a fabulous sight to drive up to, very welcoming.

Walking into the lobby… well, as you can imagine – we’ve got 4 boys 5 and under… they were amazed at all the decorations and busyness in the lobby. But it was relaxing because there was beautiful Holiday music playing. And the staff was beyond gracious and helpful… and truth be told, one of them came back with a pitcher of milk to give the boys – which just floored me. I was so taken aback by that kind gesture. And all she said was, “Thought they would like some milk before bed.” (She had my sons at hello…)

Off to our room we went… 2 double beds. It was big enough to fit all of our bags and strollers and crib that they brought up special for us. It was cozy.

And here was when the State-cation really made the big difference to me.

We never get this time. We don’t. I try all the time to “fit” it into our day… but I never get the true chance to do it. We were able to be together… all of us. There were no disruptions of XBOX or Twitter or Computers or Friends or anything. I got to be with the 5 guys I love more than anything in the world… and just ENJOY them. I got to take it all in… the laughter, the jokes, the “brother-ing,” the questions, the answers, the love… it was amazing. I got to relax with the guys. We had no agenda. We had no itinerary. We just had each other… and it was the most relaxing time we have ever had together. I know that seems funny to say… but it was. Usually we’re here, there and everywhere… the weekend of Dec 18th, it wasn’t like that. And since we were far from home, I didn’t feel the pressure to really try and get out and sight see everything.

The weather was COLD. As a matter of fact… we ended up getting hit with a blizzard the night of the 19th… 18 inches of snow! But none of that mattered. It was family time. It was relaxing time. It was time to sit and relax and reflect on these beautiful boys. It was a wonderful State-cation with my family.

Thank you Holiday Inn. You showed me something that I probably needed to see… that even a trip 55 miles from home can be magical. It doesn’t have to cost a ton of money… and that there can be more laughter and happiness and joy in a hotel room… playing games and reading and watching TV together than anywhere else.

**Holiday Inn State-cation experience included receiving a complimentary stay along with an Amex gift card stipend for gas and food **
