Fainting with Carrie Underwood

OK… so I didn’t real faint with Carrie Underwood – but we were on the same flight to Los Angeles, so it counts it teeny, tiny bit.

Ever since I was in 5th grade I have experienced fainting spells… not all the time, but I have had maybe 8 episodes in my lifetime. They’re scary. Plain and simple. I can feel them coming on… but then, almost as fast as I feel them coming on – they happen. I faint.

The first time it happened was in 5th grade. Mr Silverstein (my principal) was talking to our class, I started to feel really HOT and felt like I needed to lay down PRONTO. Next thing I knew, I woke up to Mr. Silverstein picking me up and saying, “Audrey” over and over again. Talk about being embarrassed!

Between then and now… I have had a few more.

Yesterday was the most recent “episode.” Now you have to understand… I haven’t had one in 8 years. The last time I passed out was while my husband and I were flying to Cabo San Lucas for our honeymoon. I was diagnosed with having Vasovagal reaction when I was a little girl. The good thing is… I can tell when I’m about to pass out. The bad thing is… I’m normally not flying cross country alone.

It was funny… the airline attendant asked me if they wanted to do an emergency landing in Colorado… I could almost hear everyone on the flight holding their breath. I opted a BIG, FAT NO NO NO… (much to everyone’s relief!) and was able to rest on the rest of the flight – and I truly thank GOD for the amazing 2 people that I was sitting with, they treated me like family… I don’t know their names, or who they are… but I will never, ever forget their kindness and graciousness to me, a stranger.

So Carrie… I fainted on your flight.

I wish I could say it was over you… but it seems it was a combination of altitude, being hot, sitting in a locked position for 5 hours and feeling very TRAPPED in the middle seat.

So glad you are okay. And I guess now you know that long flights seem to trigger it if the last one was on a flight to Cabo. I promise if we ever fly together that I’ll take the middle seat. Have a blast in LA. Miss you and no more fainting this week. xoxoxo col

Yep, that would be scary. Although I bet the two people sitting on either side of you were more scared than you! I’m glad they took such good care of you. As Tennessee Williams said, “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.”

Oh my, the SAME thing happened to me on the subway in NYC. I felt it coming. I knew I was going to faint. The only thing I could do was hold the pole for dear life. (Yeah…that didn’t help much.) Luckily the people around me were as gracious as the people with you.

    Hi Audrey,
I am SO sorry to hear about your experience BUT at the same time a little relieved. It sounds like you and my husband have the same type of issue. He passed out last year when we were flying back to NYC from Miami…I was 6 months pregnant and absolutely terrified. I had to pour water all over him to wake him up. Luckily there was as doctor on the flight who checked his pulse, etc. I’m glad you’re ok and seem to have handled it really well!

I really like Carrie Underwood’s new video – Undo It. Astonishing that she was unheard of simply a few years ago.
