5 Things About Boys

I never dreamed in a ba-zillion years that I would have 4 sons, especially not all this close in age. When Henry turns 2 in June… for 6 months I’ll be able to say, “Yes… my sons are 5, 4, 3, and 2.” It’s hilariously crazy to me… and I absolutely love it.

There’s just something about boys. I grew up with 2 brothers, so believe me… not much shocks me. I know boys don’t sit and play “tea party” for hours at a time. I know boys don’t play with dolls and/or Barbie for hours. I know this kind of stuff.

Boys are truly their own breed. There’s just something about them.

Here’s 5 things about my boys:

1. We bought the boys these big yellow Tonka Dump Trucks. You know… for dumping and playing with DIRT. Well… we have a (very) small hill in front of our house and for some “boy” reason, they love to bring the trucks to the top of the hill, jump in them and ride down! I don’t even want to do it! Yesterday I supervised (hoping nobody would fall out head first) and couldn’t believe my eyes when Henry started to drag one of the trucks up. Oh, man… there’s no digging going on, just riding!

2. Everything and anything… sticks, bubble wands, legos, pillows, paper towel rolls… are light sabers. I didn’t even know (not kidding) what a light saber was before I had William. I had never seen a Star Wars movie in my life (I have now!)… so it astounds me that these little men gravitate towards light sabers so much. Actually… yesterday, a piece of toast was a light saber, too.

3. Build and destroy. We have about 3 containers of legos in their play area. They love to build these gigantic towers together, and then… knock them all down! As I’m upstairs working, I can hear them giggling and William directing the construction… and then a huge crashing sound and all of them laughing! It’s the cutest thing in the world. I’m just trying to teach them that cleaning up the legos is just as important as knocking them down (they don’t like that part!).

4. They’re loyal little guys. This past weekend we were at a local playground with them all. Benjamin (my 3-yr old) and Alexander (my 4-yr old) were playing together. A little boy pushed Benjamin so he could go down the slide first. The mother of the boy was horrified… she tried to make him apologize, but he just wouldn’t. Like bees to honey… my William, Alexander and even HENRY (I wanted to melt) ran to the boy and told him to go say sorry to Ben. They tailed him for a good 5 minutes (which is a LONG time). Henry just stood there nodding… but it was the coolest thing, I must say… they protect each other. And the little boy… he did say he was sorry.

5. The mommy love. Nobody could have warned properly about the mommy love. These little guys are attached to me like legos. You know, the funny thing is… I never wanted to raise a momma’s boy. I knew too many of those kinds of guys, and I just always vowed to myself that I wouldn’t be like that. Maybe it’s because I went into motherhood with that thought process… I don’t know, but these guys love and protect me like crazy. Actually, last night I was holding Henry and I tripped over a branch in our yard. I went down on my knees pretty quickly… in that 3 second crash, all I could think of was making sure Henry was OK. He was fine. When I hit the ground, I had 4 guys (and Matt) over me in seconds helping me up, asking me if I was OK, seeing what they could do… there are no words, it felt amazing. William even ran into the house and got me ice. Little ladies out there… if any of you happen to end up with one of these guys when you’re older… I promise, they’ll treat you good!

Oh I love this list 🙂 I had always wanted girls, since I have all sisters and loved it-BUT now that I have all boys, it is just THE BEST and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

And I can relate on the Star Wars stuff-my boys are obsessed with it AND AJ loves to “be” Luke, while making dad “Darth Vador”. So when we were out to dinner the other night, AJ had to wrap his arm in a beer coozie from home before we could leave. Once we got to the restaurant, he then told our waiter that “dad cut his arm off, but this robot one was working good”. Oh my, we were dying laughing and I KNOW the waiter thought we were crazy. 🙂

A perfect list! I totally relate. But you forgot to mention the pee-pee soaked bathrooms! No matter how many times and how much I clean, the toilets continue to reek of urine. Always.
