The 30/30/30 Project (Day #20)

On October 5, my countdown began: 30 days until my 30th birthday. In honor of this, on each of the 30 days leading up to my birthday I will recount one memory from the past 30 years… either one that has helped define me, one that makes me laugh, one that makes me think, one that encourages me…  or maybe a little of everything. If possible, I will post a photo to go along with the memory.

It’s my 30/30/30 Project: 30 years. 30 memories. 30 days.

Here is my memory for Day #20:

I brought Ryder home on March 23, 2002 from Pennsylvania, where she was born on January 30, 2002. The first time I ever saw her she was so tiny that she was asleep in a little cat carrier.

I loved her from the moment I saw her. I remember on the way home she fell asleep on my legs and my heart just melted.

We had just lost our family dog, Carmel, at age 13, and had lost his littermate, Cracker, a year earlier at age 12. My mom didn’t think she was ready to fall in love with another dog… so she said that I could get a dog, but it would be mine and mine only. She wasn’t falling in love again.

But the first time she laid eyes on Ryder, of course, her tune changed. I remember putting Ryder on my Mom and Dad’s front porch, and seeing Mom fall in love right away.

Mom snapped this wonderful picture of Ryder, looking a bit hesitant about her new situation.

But I think it’s safe to say that Ryder quickly warmed up to her new loving family. She has brought us such love, joy and delight from that day on!

Oh, my! I will always remember seeing our (notice how I use the word “our”!) little darling on our front porch. Her eyes were kind of saying… “Hmmmmmm… maybe I’ll like it here…” I did fall in love in one single moment and the love Ryder brings has multiplied a zillion-fold+. Ryder fixed our broken hearts with her love and joy and playfulness… bringing Carmel and Cracker back to us through her beautiful heart! I love this post. I will always cherish this photo! I love you! Mom

Leave it to a puppy to fill start filling the holes in ones heart. Obviously I don’t know Ryder but wonder if she has that same look when she meets someone now. She is adorable with a capital A!
