52 Weeks of Giving: Week 2

Each week throughout 2011 I will share how I am giving back somehow, whether it’s by offering my resources, my time, my talents or my support.

Giving back doesn’t have to be on a grand scale. And doesn’t have to be about money.

Oftentimes charities, organizations, causes and foundations need support beyond donations. And that’s what I’m going to try to focus on.

I will be sharing what I’m doing each week; perhaps you, too, will be inspired to give back.

Together we can make a difference.

52 Weeks of Giving: Week 2

I don’t know what it’s like to go hungry – I am blessed.

But many people do know what it’s like, and sites like FreeRice.com aim to help.

FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Programme that calls itself “the world’s only online vocabulary game, feeding the world’s hungry.”

FreeRice has two goals:

  • Provide education to everyone for free.
  • Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

These goals are accomplished through the sponsors who advertise on the site, as well as people like us who play the vocabulary games on FreeRice.

For each correct answer, FreeRice 10 grains of rice to help end hunger.

It’s a fun game I’ve even enlisted my nieces and nephews to play with me, as it helps them improve their vocabulary and learn the importance of helping others.
