52 Weeks of Giving: Week 3

Each week throughout 2011 I will share how I am giving back somehow, whether it’s by offering my resources, my time, my talents or my support.

Giving back doesn’t have to be on a grand scale. And doesn’t have to be about money.

Oftentimes charities, organizations, causes and foundations need support beyond donations. And that’s what I’m going to try to focus on.

I will be sharing what I’m doing each week; perhaps you, too, will be inspired to give back.

Together we can make a difference.

52 Weeks of Giving: Week 3

This week I went through my closet with the sole (no pun intended) purpose of finding shoes I no longer need/wear/even knew I had.

I did so because this week I’m highlighting Share Our Shoes, a charity that recycles shoes for those in need. Here is a short video of SOS fitting children in Haiti with shoes after the earthquake that devastated that country last year:

Through shoe donation drives, drop boxes and donations from people like you and me, Share Our Shoes has already given hundreds of thousands of shoes to men, women and children who need them… Haiti earthquake victims, Nashville, TN flood victims and Pakistan flood victims, as well as those struggling financially locally.

As I state in the video below, I am sending about 40 pairs of shoes to Share Our Shoes… these 40 shoes are what I came up with between just me and two of my friends.

I have a (conservative) goal of getting 100 more pairs of shoes sent to Share Our Shoes by my readers.

If you can, would love for you to help!

Here is the address to send shoes:
Share Our Shoes
1107 Capital Blvd.
Raleigh, NC 27603

You’ll find so much more information on their website, like how to host a shoe drive or help in other ways.

Jane, I think this is a great cause and I want to get on board with you on this. I have shoes I don’t wear and I know I can ask my parents to donate as well. I will let you know how many pair I gathered before I ship them out. Thanks for helping make a difference and encouraging others as well, to make a difference in the lives of so many people. Loved your video.

Thank you for sharing this and being an inspiration for giving. You are one of the angels walking this earth for sure – Hugs!

Relying on your instanct is tough for most of us. It takes years to build confidence. It doesn’t really just happen if you know what I mean.
