Mom Fashion Advice: What not to wear without a belt…

It’s partially my own fault… I’ve said many, many, many times that I would love a 5th baby. And as raising these 4 boys gets (dare I say it) gets a little bit easier… the thought of trying for a 5th creeps into my mind more and more.

That being said…

This past weekend we attended a Family Reunion with my husband’s family (his mom’s side) in Maryland. It’s always fun catching up with everyone, especially since there are now 12 kids among the 1st cousins, 6 boys/6 girls – a perfect split. My sons had a blast with their little cousins (William is the oldest) and we had a blast catching up with my husband’s cousins — such wonderful people. The day was great!

Before we arrived in Maryland for the reunion on Saturday, we spent the morning in Ocean City, NJ walking the boardwalk and taking in some sun and some sights. It’s one of my husband’s favorite places to be in the world, so we really took our time. I knew I didn’t want to be too over-dressed, so I tossed on a longer tunic and jeans. In my opinion — something very easy and very comfortable.

I kept the same outfit on for the reunion, too — I just forgot to toss on my belt that I had brought with it. I wanted to cinch the waist on the tunic a bit and not make it look so… well, maternity. My fault that I forgot. LOL… and since my mother in-law is always wondering and asking if we’re going to have a 5th… I should have been prepared with my belt. 😉 And well, I felt like everyone’s eyes were on me until I took a drink from a glass of wine. OK… no announcements from the McClelland clan.

So… remember. Even though long tunics are very much in style right now, be careful when you wear them without a belt. They can very much look like a fabulous maternity top!

So funny. I believe every woman of child-bearing age has had that same experience.

I’ve actually been asked a few times, making me question my tunic choices and give up carbs. “floaty” or “70s chic” shouldn’t have to mean “maternity,” but so goes the world!

Good point about the belt but I just have to say that my favorite thing about the photo is one of your guys hiding his head in his shirt! Too cute! And next time you’re in the area, let’s get together! 🙂

I have had the hardest time finding the right belts to wear with tunics. I have a couple thick woven belts (brown and black) but I want some more on the thinner side.

Do you have suggestions where I can get them?
