Motorola XOOM

I almost feel like you can divide my work life into 2 categories – before and then after blogging. When I started, oh… a whole new world was opened to me when I started blogging in 2006. I have never been more excited about doing anything in my life — this is what I was meant to do, and I love it.

As with any job, I need the best tools to do my job.

For me… it’s all about finding the best tech tools that will work for me and my digital life. It’s all about finding the perfect laptop, tablet, smartphone and anything else that is going to help me grow my blog and my business. There are really 4 different things I look for when it comes to finding tools that I love. I need them to be:

1. User-friendly – Yes, I make my living online, but I’m by no means a tech expert. I want something that’s easy to use, not something I want to throw out the window!

2. Lightweight/Mobile – I travel a lot and if I can’t stick it in my bag and take it with me, it’s not very useful.

3. Multi-function – I don’t want to have to stick a camera, video camera and MP3 player in my bag along with everything else!

4. Kid-friendly – Whether it’s at home, or in the car, I need to have something I can hand to the kids so they can play games, listen to music, watch a movie or read books.

I recently got to try out a product that not only met all of these requirements, but exceeded them, the Motorola Xoom Tablet. I took it to BlogHer2011 to test it out. And if you saw me, you saw my XOOM! I had it every place I went! Even to dinner one night!

It was really easy to use, the layout was clear and logical and I didn’t need to read a 500-page manual to get myself up and running. It was simple enough that my kids were able to pick it up and find their favorite apps. As a matter of fact, I had a hard time getting them to give it up so I could pack it in my carry-on!

The Motorola Xoom Tablet was great to have on my flights from Providence to San Diego. The second leg had WiFi so I was able to get some work done, as well as watch a movie and play a few games. It really made the trip go quickly which is always a plus!

At BlogHer 2011, the Motorola Xoom Tablet had everything I needed to work on the road, mainly a camera/video camera and a WiFi connection. I was able to take pictures around the conference and shoot some vlogs, the built-in camera worked magic. I really liked that I could hold it up and shoot, or flip the camera and take video of myself (a great way to check my hair and makeup on the go – priorities, right!).

Perhaps my favorite function of all was using Google Chat to video chat with my husband and sons! I didn’t really share this info with too many people because I was having a tough time with being away this time around. I hate being away from home, and it always brightens my day when I get to see the smiling faces of my little men. My oldest, William, had a HUGE swim meet over the weekend, that killed me to miss. He swims for the same pool club that I did as a child. He kind of came out of nowhere this summer and has turned into a little swimming fish! We didn’t expect him to make the finals in any event because he’s so young, but he ended up making the finals in the 2 events he swam! I was so excited for him, but it was bittersweet not to be there. He said to me on the phone, “Mom… I went to fast!”

So… my husband surprised me by bringing his Motorola Xoom (yup, he bought one this past weekend!) to the meet (especially for me), and used the pool club’s WiFi to live stream William’s races. It meant the world to me to be able to see William swim and to see his beaming smile as he told me he qualified for the finals. THAT was priceless! When I say I had tears streaming down my cheeks… they came down like waves – no pun intended. My William!

Now that’s pretty incredible technology!

And look at how crisp this video is… I shot this on the last night at BlogHer… closing our weekend out!

Also! Very excited to share this news — Motorola XOOM price has dropped. The XOOM is now available for $499 with a 2 year contract. That makes it the lowest priced tablet on the market.

Disclosure: I partnered with Motorola XOOM for BlogHer11
