How to Shop for a Girl (especially when you have boys)

How to shop for a girl. I’ll tell you, it’s a heck of a lot different than it is shopping for a boy!

I spent this afternoon with my 10 year old (almost 11!) niece, Taylor. Her birthday is on January 14th, so I thought it would be fun to take her out to lunch and out for a little shopping trip for her birthday. I never get to spend one-on-one time with her because she’s so busy and I’m so busy, so this was a very special and nice treat for me.

I knew it would be different shopping with a girl, I just wasn’t prepared for how different.

Usually I get this when we’re shopping…
“Are we done yet?”
“Oh, mom – are you going to try that on? Please say NO.”
“How much longer?”
“Can you please get me a donut after this?”
“I’ll hide, you try and find me.”

Yeah, that is what I’m used to.

I wasn’t prepared for Taylor’s comments…

“Oh, Auntie Audrey – can we look over there, too?”
“Do you mind if I try things on?”
“Can you see if you see my size?”
“What color do you like better the brown or the pink?”
“Oh, who would wear this!?”
“Isn’t this so pretty Auntie Audrey!?”

It was refreshing… a nice refreshing.

Shopping with a girl was nice because I didn’t:
feel rushed…
feel like I couldn’t try something on…
feel like I was ruining their day…
feel like I couldn’t look around more…

Taylor and I had a wonderful afternoon, I even captured a couple of the dresses she tried on through some photos!

I LOVED this on her, but I knew she felt to "little girl" in it. It looked gorgeous though!
The winner! I told her it looked fabulous in her black leggings and riding boots. She looked very chic!

All in all we ended up scoring some MAJOR deals at Lands’ End. We got a dress, sweater and ballet flats for $46.00. INSANE, right?

Our WINNINGS!!

Happy Birthday Taylor!

Thanks Auntie Audrey I had loads of fun today. It was so fun. One of my favorite parts was when we looked in the scrapbook you made me. In that book you gave me some great advice, and cool facts about my Dad. One of the funniest things was when you told me about when my Dad sang the chicken song in the school talent show. I love you so much. Thanks for the best day ever. I love you tons.
