Daily Diary: 30+ years of Camelot’s “It’s MAY” on May 1st

Ever since I was a baby, my parents would play Camelot’s “The Lusty Month of May” every May 1st to celebrate my birthday month. It’s a tradition they started with me and it’s a tradition I’ve loved and lived my whole entire life.

My birthday is May 23rd, so as I got older, with every May 1st… the birthday countdown began, but not without “The Lusty Month of May” being played to kick off the month of May on May 1st!

I’ll never forget my father playing the Camelot record. Yes, RECORD!! LOL…

And then the Camelot CD.

And then… well, finding it on YouTube to play for me over the phone.

I remember being a teenager and being woken up to the blaring of the song in my bedroom… LOL… it’s something that has ALWAYS brought a smile to my face.

It’s funny… life has changed and evolved, but this is ONE tradition that has never changed. This is one tradition that has never gone away. This is something – even as I’m about to turn 35 years old this month and a mother of 4 and expecting a 5th – that still puts a HUGE smile on my face and warms my heart.

And every single year, as I’ve gotten older… I see my phone ring VERY early in the morning and my first reaction is, “They remembered.” I still can’t believe I have this reaction because they’ve never forgot.

I put my phone on the speaker setting this morning and let my sons listen in with me, they got a kick out of it. Alex actually asked, “Is that Grandma Rita singing?” 🙂

A beautiful tradition continued… a 30+ years tradition.

Thank you for this tradition, I cherish it every single year. And will forever.
