Join Team In Training and run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco on October 19th

January 30th, 2012 was the day that my life changed.

It was the day my husband discovered he had a cancerous tumor in his abdomen. The cancerous tumor is called a GIST tumor. Fortunately it was removed and he has been treated at Dana Farber for the last 2 ½ years. He takes a chemo pill every night before bed and he will keep being on this for the next year.

My husband was 36 years old when he went through all of us. When I say that our lives and priorities in life changed, it’s almost an understatement. Your health. Your family. Your happiness. The 3 things in life that are the most important. After January 30th, 2012… it’s all that truly, truly rang through for me.

When you go through something like this, you become a natural researcher about cancer and all that it entails – treatments, options and what kinds of research is being done. Our family became very passionate about giving back and making sure we are constantly spreading the word about how people can get involved and give back on their own. We have seen first hand the difference it can make it someone’s life, and their family, who is going through cancer.

You can have an impact on cancer.

And that’s a pretty incredible thing to be able to do.

Join Team In Training (TNT) and run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon (NWHM) in San Francisco on October 19. You’ll be helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) fund research to advance lifesaving blood cancer treatments. TNT is the flagship fundraising campaign for LLS, and the NWHM in San Francisco is always sold out. At its 25th anniversary last year, TNT has trained more than 600,000 participants and raised more than $1.4 billion.

$1.4 billion.

That’s absolutely incredible and it comes from people like you and me, getting out there and doing what we can to make an impact.

With TNT, in exchange for raising funds, you’ll train for four months with world-class trainers, have access to clinics on nutrition and injury prevention and race through San Francisco’s iconic landmarks.

I’m currently training for a half marathon that will take place in August and it’s very emotional for me to be doing this. I always run for a cause and I think it’s just beyond incredible that TNT continuously does this and continuously changes people’s lives by doing helping to raise funds. I salute the men and women who sign up and train with TNT, they are doing something so special and so selfless. It’s a beautiful thing.
