Grocery Shopping at ALDI for Back to School

Getting the boys out the door to the bus stop (on time) isn’t always easy in the morning.

My house is in constant motion from the second every wakes up, till the second everyone walks out the door for school. There’s so much to get done, in a short amount of time… especially with 5 kids.

The BIG first-thing-every-morning is make breakfast for the boys and Victoria and pack lunches for school. The boys bring lunch to school, so it’s 4 full lunches that need to be prepped, made and packed. My husband and I are a good team in the morning, so we definitely have a system down that works for us. The only breakfast-lunch snafu is that every single boy likes something different snacks. Everyone will eat a PBJ sandwich, but not everyone will eat the same snack foods.

Oh, yes… nobody seems to have the exact same taste buds. J

ALDI is a great grocery destination for us because the prices are phenomenal, which is helpful since we’re always buying such a large amount of food with a single shopping. It’s funny, I will literally have people follow me and the boys around the store, watching to see what I put in my cart. Then right when I’m about to checkout, they always say, “Just wait till their teenagers!” Yes, I know… the amount of food we buy is pretty crazy, but it’s this exact reason why I appreciate and love a place like ALDI. I can get what I need for school lunches.

What I’ll usually do is check out the ALDI circular first, for example… here’s a sample of this week’s circular:

Also, I love to checkout the week’s “Special Buys”. I’m able to quickly take a peek online as to what are some great extra deals and see if we happen to need any of these items in our house.

The big things that I go through every week in my house:

Bread

Crackers

Fruit

Chips

Yogurt

Milk

These are my BIG 6 items.

Here’s just an average morning in my house with ALDI in use.

I make my sandwiches for the boys with L’oven FRESH Bread. PBJ is what I make everyone. It’s almost like an assemble line in the morning with sandwich making.

L’oven FRESH Bread will also be used for after school snacks… the boys love to make toast with cinnamon and sugar!

The biggest ALDI item that we buy in the McClelland house is their Friendly Farms Whole MILK! We go through a GALLON and a HALF of milk every single day. The boys drink it for breakfast, they pack it in their thermos for lunch at school and they have it after school, too. I will actually buy about 6-8 gallons at a time. You should see the stares I get, especially if I’m alone! J

After school snacks are also something I go through quickly, too. The boys are starving when they get home from school, so I always need to make sure I’m extra-stocked. They play baseball and have swimming throughout the week, so our schedules are pretty packed and I like to make sure they’re always fueled for whatever they have in the evening, too.

The boys love Freeze N’ Squeeze frozen bars from ALDI. I have these on-hand year round, not just in the summer as a frozen treat! They’re easy to eat on-the-go and a nice snack for the boys.

Also, Friendly Farms has delicious Vanilla Greek Yogurt and individual yogurt containers. I’ll dish out the Greek Yogurt in bowls and layer some strawberries or granola on top for them (and myself, too!), or the boys will eat the individual yogurt containers. It’s a hearty snack and something that they’ll just eat in front of the TV or at the kitchen table before we head out.

ALDI really is a wonderful family grocery destination. ALDI stocks with many of their very own exclusive brands. And they have an amazing double guarantee.

As you’re getting yourself in the back to school groove with school lunches, ALDI is an awesome place to check out and shop at for your needs.
