Why You Should Start a Grateful Journal

Grateful Journal

What makes you happy?

What makes you feel grateful?

What brings you true excitement?

What makes you feel content and at peace?

What makes you look at your life and say, “All is well with the world?”

For me, I wanted to start off 2015 with a grateful journal.

It’s something I did when I was in middle school and high school, but stopped doing as I got older because I was always *too busy*. I loved writing in my journal every night because it was a way to recap my day and really hone in on what made me feel happy and fulfilled and grateful. I would simply jot down things throughout the day that made me happy. Sort of like a happy-recap-report.

I loved doing it SO much and I thought it was time to start it up again!

I’d love to encourage you to join me.

Each night before bed, or the next morning, write down 5 things (or as many or little as you want) that made you happy that day.

Was it a phone call with someone special? Was it a delicious meal you ate or prepared? Was it watching a movie with your kids? Was it a yoga class or a morning run? Was it having the opportunity to sleep a little late?

Write them down.

Remember them.

Create that memory.

Sometimes the most ordinary days of all are the days I love the most. There was nothing particularly special about it, just that it was a great day and it made me head-to-toe happy.

Also, find a notebook that makes you happy. I found a gorgeous Anchor one that I adore and it makes me smile every time I see it. Find one that truly creates an inviting emotion for you. It’s a special notebook and will hold beautiful things.

I promise, this is super easy to do and it only takes about 5 minutes. You will look back in a few weeks and really be happy with what you’re doing and love this experience!
