Video Appointments with a Doctor on Demand

If I can avoid my doctor’s office, I will. It’s the flu season and I feel like every single time I go, we leave with more germs than when we came with! As a mom of 5, once one of my children get something, it just goes through the house like wildfire, or as I like to say, dominoes. But here’s the thing – I’m not a doctor, so there are times when I definitely want to know if I need to take serious action or if something isn’t as bad as it seems. As every parent knows, mostly on weekends and late at night, if you don’t have to go into the ER or a walk-in clinic, that’s a good thing – especially with young kids.

Here’s an example. About a month ago, I took Victoria to our doctor’s office because she had a red rash on her back and legs. When I “googled” it, it gave me every worse case scenario, which scared me. I made an appointment with our doctor and he told me not to worry, it just was very dry skin due to the weather. As soon as I started using lotion on her back every single night after bath time, it went away within days. Just like that – gone! But bringing her into the doctor, well… it was a process and it made me wish that we lived next door to a pediatrician, especially on something as easy as hearing it was just dry skin!

That’s just one example, again… as a mom of 5, I have plenty of stories for me and my family where if we had the ability to have a doctor on call “see us” immediately, it would have made life a lot easier. There are so many things that you worry about medically for yourself and your family – high fevers, flu symptoms, rashes, allergic reactions, etc. So, because of all of this – I was beyond intrigued when I heard about “Doctor on Demand.”

Was it possible to see a doctor and get a real diagnosis via video call?

Was it really possible to have a dream like this come true?

Seriously, it almost sounded too good to be true for me!

I loved their mission, Lack of access to health care providers in the United States is a massive, growing problem. The average wait time to see a physician is three weeks. Even if you can see a doctor, it takes 2-3 hours from the time you leave your home or office to the time you get back home. It takes an average of 25 days to see a psychiatrist or psychologist. Nearly half of patients with mental health issues go without treatment. We’re not getting the care that we need. We built Doctor On Demand to help address this problem. At Doctor On Demand we provide fast, easy and cost-effective access to some of the best doctors, psychologists, and other healthcare providers in the country. Our patients can have Video Visits with these providers on their smartphone or computers at any time of day. We do this without making any sacrifices on quality. All providers are carefully screened and trained to conduct Video Visits.

How amazing is this? I signed up immediately!

I had my first experience with Doctor On Demand and I LOVED it!

My Victoria had been acting very fussy and sporting a low grade fever all last weekend. I wasn’t sure if it was an ear infection or not. I was getting more and more concerned as Monday rolled around. I knew trying to get into my doctor on a Monday would be tough, so I gave Doctor on Demand a call. I loved the fact that I didn’t need to leave my house and I could literally talk to a real pediatrician from my home, with my Victoria by my side. As you sign up for a call, you need to answer certain questions – questions that are very routine for a visit – birthdate, symptoms, medical history, allergies, etc. It was very seamless and very easy to go through everything. Before I knew it, I was chatting with Dr. Wilson. She was wonderful. She asked me all about what Victoria had been experiencing and then she asked to see Victoria. As Victoria started to wave hello and become entranced with the video chat, Dr. Wilson asked me to lightly pull on each ear to see if Victoria reacted. Immediately to her left one, she did. With all of the symptoms I had been telling Dr. Wilson that Victoria has, she told me there is a very good chance she has an ear infection. She then prescribed medicine for her and faxed it to my pharmacy.

All within 15 minutes.

It was quick. It was easy.

I couldn’t have asked for a more seamless appointment.

I suggest Doctor On Demand. It was absolutely incredible. I felt at ease. I felt that she listened to me. And most of all – I felt happy with the appointment.

What a wonderful on-call kind of doctor to have!
