31 Days of Gratefulness – Day 8

Literacy Quote

Today I’m grateful for parents who read to me as a child. And I’m grateful for the books that I have in my home for my kids.

I spent all day yesterday in Nashville with Johnson’s and Save the Children seeing the Early Child Learning Development Programs that have been created and sustained with their partnership. It was amazing to see the power of what a book can bring a child. I had the chance to visit 2 families who are benefiting from reading to their children… these 2 families had parents that were never read to as children and had very challenging and difficult upbringings. To see these parents get so excited about reading to their children and not allowing history to repeat itself with their own kids was incredible.

I flew home last night truly thinking about how grateful I was to have parents who loved to read to me and knew the power of a good book.

Thank you mom and dad.

And on those nights when I’m super tired and just want to crash on the couch, I’m going to remember the families I met yesterday and grab a book and my kids!
