Growing Up in a House of Love

May parents celebrate 40 years of marriage today. 40 years. That’s a heck of a long time. In this day in age, it’s pretty phenomenal to meet a couple who has been together for 40 years. Well, wait – let me rephrase. A couple who has been together in LOVE for 40 years.

That’s my parents.

Growing up with my parents, I got to see day in and day out a couple madly in love. The kind of love you dream about. The kind of love you hope for. The kind of love you see in the fairy tales and all those romantic movies. My mom would always get excited when my dad’s car pulled into the driveway. I mean, EXCITED. Even though she had seen him hours before, she would still get giddy. My father? The same way. Just the way my father looks at my mother, he’s a goner. He’s always been that way. I remember – even as a very little kid – knowing in my core that my parents were happy. There’s something VERY comforting as a child to know that in your heart and in your soul.

There’s something pretty powerful growing up in a house where you got to see 2 people so crazy in love with each other. It made me realize early on that there is such a thing as soulmates and happily ever afters. It made me realize the dream is possible and to never, ever settle when it comes to matters of the heart. Thank you for this gift.

To my parents on this special day, I love you both to the moon and back. Here’s to another 40 more!
