Raising a Girl with Only Brothers

Usually the first thing people tell me when I say I have 4 sons and 1 daughter is, “She’ll never date!”

I always laugh because (well) that *may* be true. She’ll most definitely have 4 brothers who will be on the lookout for her, always. I’ve always kind of thought that whomever she ends up with someday, they’ll have to be pretty confident to walk into a house full of older brothers!

As Victoria’s getting older, now a strapping 3 years old (!), it’s really cool to see her come into her own. She’s DEFINITELY a product of 4 brothers, there’s absolutely no doubt about it!  I always thought I would have this total girly-girl… and she is, but with a tomboy touch, with I personally love.

How is it raising a little girl with 4 older brothers?

As her mom, I’ve realized a few things about Victoria.

She has an inner toughness which I know will serve her well in life. She’s not bothered by little things, which I love. For example, this weekend the boys were trying to help her push a HEAVY cart with 5 pumpkins. She didn’t want help. She wanted to do it on her own. My sons (God bless them) just wanted to help. So what did she do when she realized they weren’t going to let go? She walked away. Like “Alright boys, you don’t think I can do it, then just leave me be!”

She’s cool with really anything. Stuff that would gross me out, she loves. For example… we went fishing this past weekend. Fish galore. I was dry heaving. Victoria wanted to touch the fish and get right up there with the boys. She was so excited when they caught one! She’ll always be great getting down and dirty!

She’s a total girly girl (like I said), but she’s also a lover of all the things the boys love, too! Football, wrestling, Ninja Warrior stuff, swimming, basketball, racing, etc. For example, she put out all of her stuffed animals yesterday to watch a movie and included her own NERF gun (see it on the couch).

She farts. Yup. She farts and gets excited to tell the boys.

She plays football with the boys, but usually dressed up in her tutu!

She’s always right there in the mix of things! Nothing really phases her, which I love. For example, they were getting off the bus a couple of weeks ago (we had been away for 2 nights) and she screamed “I’m home BOYS!” Like the world should have stopped because she was away from her boys. It was adorable because the boys really missed her!

She believes in entourages. Doesn’t every little girl have 4 boys chase after her?

I will never know what it’s like having 2 girls. Victoria will never have a sister. She will always be surrounded by boys, boys who love her and only want the best for her. She’s got a sweetness about her that is beautiful to see. She’s got a toughness about her that will carry her well throughout her life. She’s comfortable around boys. She’s not afraid to get in the mix. She is my perfect little version of what I wished and hoped for in a daughter.

Now watch me get pregnant next month with twin girls!

(I’m totally biting my tongue!)
