Why You Need To Reward Yourself

If you’re part of my Permission to Hustle group, then you’ve seen this already. I’m passionate about hustling and working hard and chasing after your personal and professional goals in life. Everyone’s hustle is different, but whatever it is… it’s usually rooted in the fact that it’s something you really want and will go after with full GUSTO!

I wanted to share this personal story about rewarding yourself during your hustle. I firmly believe this is something that we don’t do enough for ourselves. We all work so hard, that we never take the time to embrace a job well done and take the moment in. I know I always feel guilty buying things for myself because I think of all the other stuff I could’ve and should’ve gotten.

Which brings me to my story today.

I’ve been wanting a Louis Vuitton Artsy bag for a couple of years now. So much so that even my KIDS know the name of the bag. I’ve tried it on in various stores (at least) a dozen times throughout the years… wanting, wanting, wanting, but never getting. I’ve worked my butt off over the last 8 years. I’ve worked hard for myself and for my family. Lots of sacrifices. Lots of hard down and swimming forward. While in Vegas this past weekend, we were walking by the Louis Vuitton store and (of course!) I took my husband in. I tried on a few bags for fun and then tried on “my” Artsy. My husband knows my love affair with this bag. As the woman was putting it back in the duster bag my husband said to me, “Get it. You deserve it.” Even the woman at Louis Vuitton was taken back when he said it. He then told her about what I do and a little about our lives and how long I’ve wanted this bag. She smiled and said, “When your husband says you deserve it, you get the bag.”

And with that – without a hesitation, I bought the bag. I BOUGHT the bag with my own money, for myself.

It felt good, it felt really, really good.

I don’t ask for much. I really don’t want for much.

But this bag? This bag represents hard work to me. This bag represents the Permission that I’ve given MYSELF to hustle. To hustle hard and long and non-stop. This bag in many ways is blood, sweat and tears.
It’s a bag… and yes, it’s a total vanity purchase – but, to me… every single time I see it and use it, I know the true meaning of it. HUSTLE. HUSTLE. HUSTLE.

And once in awhile… pat yourself on the back for a job well done! You DESERVE it!

well said! I love how you said “swimming forward” pun with all the swimming your little ones do! Enjoy it- I know ALOT of moms feel the same, and as some may think its alot of money to spend on a bag, its all relative- its all about what we will get the most enjoyment from, maybe its a spa to some or vacation to others, I personally love your idea- you will see it everyday (its going to last forever!) and remind you of all you do and why you do it. As a mom, you get the healthy happy babies to look at and this is just a little something for just you. LOVE IT!

Thank you so much Meredith for your comment. Means the world to me.
The price was always my setback. Always “what else could I do with it” – but it’s a deeper meaning now.
And I literally haven’t put it down! LOL!
