Cinco de Mayo is a celebration held on May 5 every single year. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin. It’s a day that many people celebrate, but don’t truly understand why they do. It’s become a day that people get together and celebrate with some drinks and delicious foods! I’m excited to share with you today some Cinco de Mayo Recipes that include one of my fave items – Hood Sour Cream!

When it comes to Cinco de Mayo – you want to make sure you have some foods on hand that you love. With Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner a taco bar a great option for a family dinner. When it comes to creating a perfect spread for the day, you want to make sure you’re including some of your favorite Mexican dishes. As many of you know – I’ve been working with Hood Sour Cream over the last year. I have to say – we actually use Hood Sour Cream all the time in our house, but it’s truly a fixture on Cinco de Mayo because we always have a Taco Bar, Nacho Bar and Burrito making for the kids! I went on The Rhode Show yesterday for my weekly segment where I got to showcase some of my fave Cinco de Mayo Recipes with Will Gilbert!

I had a full taco bar out and we each made a taco and “dressed” it with our favorite toppings! As you can guess – I had cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, salsa, guacamole and (oh, yes) sour cream! As you can tell these are easy recipes that anyone can make at home! When you’re trying to create your perfect taco bar, my suggestion is:

– Meat (chicken or ground)

– Shredded cheese

– Peppers

– Tomatoes

– Lettuce

– Sour cream

– Guacamole

– Salsa

If there’s anything else you want to add, bring it right on in! The best part about creating a taco bar is that it’s fantastic for picky eaters because you can pick and choose what you want. My kids are super picky, they don’t like the same things. They want to pick and choose at their own and this allows them to do just that. I love how they make what they want. I love how they can add as much sour cream as they want or as much cheese as they want! And the best part? Nobody is complaining about the meal! Everyone is happy with smiles on their faces! That doesn’t happen too often at home! I love when it does!

Another suggestion? Nacho Bar! You can use the same toppings above, but you just have these toppings smothered over chips! I’m a big lover of nachos. I love being able to make them as a snack or an appetizer for the kids. My sons would eat these as a main dish, too! I’m all right with that as long as there is so protein on them, too.
