Frigidaire’s Gallery Fridge – Goodbye bottled water!

I have been the proud and happy owner of 6 new Frigidaire appliances for 6 weeks now. One thing I was interested to see was if I would be saving any money by owning them. With 4 little boys, I am trying – the best ways I can – to be smart with money. It’s amazing,  but once you stop and actually become aware, you really start to make smarter and better decisions.

One thing I used to ALWAYS purchase was bottled water. I have always been one of those people who make coffee at home, because for some reason my Dunkin Donuts coffee tastes better to me made from my own coffee machine. But, I was one of those people who purchased bottles of water. My excuse? I never liked the taste of our NYC tap water. And I never liked the taste of our Rhode Island water. Yeah, yeah, yeah… excuses. I don’t even want to think how much money I spent buying those bottles of water.

When our new Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator arrived, my husband jokingly said to me, “Hey, you’ve got a water filter now – no more buying water!” Honestly, before we got the fridge, the thought of a built-in water filter system was a “perk” for us, rather than something we were looking to get or even needed for our family. So I guess it’s funny and ironic that this one change has probably saved us the most amount of money. I can say, without hesitation, that I never purchase water anymore. The water from my fridge is delicious! I don’t know why, but I kind of had it in my head that the water would taste funky. Don’t laugh when I say this, because I’m serious. I thought the water would have an odd taste to it.  We’ve never had a water filter built-in… and I never had one when I was growing up, so this was all very new to me. Purchasing less water because of this “perk” has been fantastic for us, and truthfully, the money is now going toward buying the gallons upon gallons of milk for our 4 boys! Especially now, as I mentioned before, that we can easily fit 4-5 gallons in the fridge at a time (another savings tip because I now stock up on milk on sale!).

Another great feature is that the fridge has an automatic alert system. If the door is left open or the temperature rises, the fridge alerts us. Going in and out of the fridge all day, every day, this happens once in awhile. I love this alert feature because I know our food is protected and nothing has the opportunity to be spoiled since we are alerted. Now that my (almost) 5 and 4 –yr old sons know how to open the fridge and get what they need, they sometimes don’t make sure the door is actually fully closed, so this really makes things easier for our family (especially me and my husband!).

The needs of my family are being met and then some. I just love this fridge… and quite frankly, I am truly enjoying these extra “perks” that I never would have considered adding on before.

Another perk is saving on all of the plastic bottles being thrown away or recycled. Also, all of the bad things being said of plastic drinking bottles. I feel so much better sending my kids off with a re-usable bottle of filtered water than a Poland Springs!
