Shoe Alert: Flip Flips Good For Your Knees

I’m all about the Flip Flops throughout the summer. I absolutely love them. I’ve already bought a few of them and have them on reserve for some “real” summer weather.

Last summer I got some emails from some readers asking me to recommend an alternative to flip flops for the summer because of knee/joint problems. I did a bunch of research and found a few good alternatives…

BUT!!… and this is no joke, there seriously was a flip flop report in the news the past couple of days about the “safety” of flip flops and how they are now good for your knees.

CBS 4 in Florida reported, “A new study found that wearing flip flops lessens the load on knees by 15 percent more than in more stable shoes. The study analyzed 31 people with osteoarthritis while they walked barefoot and with flip flops.”

Why is this?

“Researchers said the numbers indicate that flip flops are better for knees than supportive stable shoes possibly because the natural flex of the foot lessens the impact on the joint; whereas if you’re wearing a stiff soled shoe, you tend to stomp.”

So when you’re looking for some fabulous summer shoes, keep this in the back of your head and go for some FLIPS!

Fit Flops, are amazing, I love them. There is a warning that when you first get them, you have to ease your way into them (they work muscle groups that are not typically worked with ‘normal’ shoes…). They are pricier than your normal ‘flips’ about $60 on average, but amazon.com has some good deals. You do not have to give them up in the winter either – they also have fit flop boots!

I wear them year round, except for in snow or freezing rain. LOVE flip flops. Thanks for this.
