Pampers Dry Max Diapers

I remember the first pack of Pampers I bought for my son William. As funny as this sounds… I had everything ready for my brand new baby – clothing, blankets, bottles, binkies, shoes, toys, baby gear… everything BUT diapers. I don’t know how I possibly missed that memo when I was pregnant with my first son. When we were leaving the hospital with him in tow… and as every brand new mom can attest to… I was pondering how I was going to do this alone without the team of nurses at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. Could I come back if he was crying at night and have them help me lull him back to sleep? (That was a definite NO…) When we walked into our apartment with this little 7 pounds, 8 ounce baby… we realized we only had 3 diapers left – the ones that hospital had given us to use. My husband (as adorable as can be) ran to our local Duane Reed to buy a few packages for us… he came home with Pampers. And then they had us.

Growing up in Pampers… I knew the brand and felt comfortable with the brand. Not to mention, they gave us Pampers diapers at the hospital, so I figured these have to be the best if they’re using them themselves. And they were for my family… not only for my William (born on September 25th, 2004), but for my Alexander (born September 28th, 2005), my Benjamin (born April 4th, 2007) and my Henry (born June 17th, 2008). Pampers has always been our brand of diapers. As soon as the boys were old enough to realize that Big Bird and Elmo were on the diapers, they (themselves!) were hooked.

Recently Pampers completely redesigned their Cruisers diapers making them 20 percent thinner (with no sacrifice in performance department). The new Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max promise to lock wetness away up to 12 hours, making it the driest diaper ever.

To say I was a little excited is an understatement! They “officially” hit the shelves this past March. I had the chance to try them out on my sons Benjamin and Henry this past January and I LOVED them! Having 4 boys all 5 and under, diapers have played a HUGE role in our home after the past 5 1/2 years… when you see something new come across your baby’s bum bum and see a big difference, you appreciate it immensely. Thinner and drier… gotta love that combo on any baby.

It shocked me this past April when I started seeing some pretty serious claims from moms about the new Pampers Dry Max diapers. As a mom, I immediately sympathized with the moms whose babies were experiencing diaper rash. As someone using the Dry Max diapers, I absolutely wanted to see if there was any connection between the new diaper and the rashes. I hadn’t experienced it with my sons, nor had any of my friends, so it was very important for me to see what Pampers reaction would be to the moms experiencing the diaper rash with their babies.

Pampers invited some bloggers to their Headquarters in Cincinnati this past week. I was very anxious to be there and hear how they are dealing with this difficult issue. Being someone who has loved Pampers for years, it was important for me to be there and truly understand how Pampers is reacting and trying to get to the bottom of this diaper rash debate.

While at Pampers headquarters I had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to meet Jodi Allen, VP of North American Pampers… Liza Sanchez, Director of Research & Development… Leslie Hopkins and Kerri Hailey, Associate Directors of Research & Development… Bryan McCleary, Associate Director of External Relations… Paul Sagel, Retired Research Fellow of Research & Development (he helped to invent Bounce!)… Kim Thompson, Ph. D., President, Kid Risk, Inc and Tom DeWitt, M.D., Medical Director, Pampers Parenting Network. These were executives and researchers who live and breath Pampers… they have a passion for their job and their commitment to babies and families, it was beyond inspiring to be around. These are men and women who are moms and dads… these are men and women who are deeply committed to every single baby who wears a Pampers diaper.

What I truly appreciated at the beginning of our day was how the morning began… Jodi Allen said, “It starts with the love for babies.” And that within itself set the tone for the day. There were 10 of us there at the meeting… and believe me, there wasn’t one question that wasn’t asked about what Pampers thoughts, reactions and conclusions were to the Dry Max diapers.

Here is some important information I gathered from the meeting:

· Dry Max is one of the most tested diapers in Pampers history – developing Dry Max involved 20,000 babies and 300,000 diaper changes.

· With over two billion diapers changes with the new product, Pampers had an average of two reports of rashes for every million diapers.

· While Pampers with Dry Max diapers may be a new product, the diapers themselves contain the same type of materials as our previous Cruisers or Swaddlers diapers. By redesigning they were able to use the same type of tested ingredients, but remove the bulk, to create the thinnest diaper ever.

What I personally loved hearing was that Pampers was spending on the average of 15 minutes on the phone with moms and/or dads calling in to ask about the new diapers and any connection with diaper rash. They’re even going a step beyond that by personally having staff from their Research & Development team chat with concerned parents, reassuring them that there’s nothing in the diapers causing diaper rash. I was surprised to hear that every single diaper is tracked… Pampers can tell which crew was working, what time the exact diaper was made, where it was made and the lot it was on. It’s remarkable how systematic it is, so it’s very easy for them to track any diaper.

After spending a full day and a half with the amazing team at Pampers… and learning all about the Dry Max – how it’s made, what tests are run on it and how strong and thin it actually is. Everything that I saw, heard and read, along with my own experience, has convinced me that the Pampers with Dry Max are not causing rashes. I appreciate the Pampers team taking the time to meet with us to address our concerns and will continue using nothing but Pampers with Dry Max on my precious Henry until he joins his brothers on the big boy potty (and will use them for all babies to come in the McClelland household!).

I had the rash experience with these also. I had been using Pampers Baby Dry but ran out so I sent my husband to get some more, and he came home with the Cruisers. I didn’t even notice at first, and the the baby started getting a rash. I went over everything that he had ate and there was nothing new, no new soaps or detergent, but the rash wasn’t going away. I finally loooked in the closet and saw the my husband bought the Cruisers so I took them out and examined them and they looked different then the inside of the baby dry (I had some in the diaper bag)So I went out and bought a box of the baby dry and stopped using the cruisers…within a day or two Caiden’s rash went away. I love Pampers and have used them on both of my children, I will just stick with the Baby Dry.
