D-I-Y Done!

Scraping wallpaper early on in our house renovations

In the last month I’ve stripped wallpaper, scraped paint, removed nails and screws and stickers from walls and ceilings, mixed joint compound, spackled walls, sanded walls, primed walls, painted walls, painted trim, dusted, vacuumed, cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, cleaned (yes, again), removed fixtures, become adept at taking down shelves with a crowbar and hammer, sanded floors, applied polyurethane to hardwoods – and more.

As the name of this post implies, I have pretty much reached my DIY quota on our house.

I’ve made enough trips to our local hardware store that I’m now known there. (Not as “Jane”, of course, but as “Brian’s fiancé”.)

I have a toolbox and I know how to use it. But now I’m ready to put said toolbox in the basement and move in to our house… not just go there to work on it.

Brian and I have worked really hard (with help from Mom & Dad – thanks, guys!) to get the house to where it is now. If I do say so myself, it looks beautiful. I love it.

Brian polyurethaning the floors

Today we applied the final coat of polyurethane to the hardwoods, and as soon as that’s dry, I am ready to pull up to the front door with a box truck full of our stuff. Yeah, we still have some little things to take care (buying/putting up new light fixtures, curtains, etc.), but I’m of the mindset that we can do those things once we’re living there.

Brian says we’ll be moving in this week, and I hope that’s true because I’d really love to wake up on Christmas morning in our new house!

That, and I’m D-I-Y Done!
