Happy To Be Home, But Missing the Carefree Qualities of Vacation

It’s amazing to me how quickly the mind and body can adapt to being on vacation.

The moment we arrived in South Florida, I was immediately in warm-weather, no-schedules-to-follow, total relaxation mode.

In no time at all I was used to being surrounded by palm trees…

hanging out by the pool…

feeling the warm sand between my toes…

and just generally loving every moment of vacation!

We got home late Friday night and I’ve been in a bit of a post-vacation funk ever since. It hasn’t been as easy for my mind and body to acclimate back to reality – which included donning a winter coat, gloves and a hat for our walk with the pups early this morning.

So, today, despite longing for the warm weather and general lack of responsibilities we had on our vacation – and looking at the laundry list of things I have to do (including laundry, incidentally) – I’m trying to focus on the positive aspects of being home:

• Having the doggies with us. We missed them SO much. And I can’t believe how much Jethro grew in just 2 weeks!

• Having family close by. Last evening Brian and I got an impromptu call from my brother asking if we wanted to join him, my sister-in-law and my nephew for dinner. It was so nice to be able to say, “Yes!” and meet up with them 20 minutes later.

• Walking to yoga class. I love living in the downtown area of our town. Our home is walking-distance to so many things, including my favorite yoga studio, Bristol Yoga Studio. Yesterday on my walk there, I felt that sense of “it’s good to be home.”

• Seeing signs of spring. On that walk to yoga class yesterday, I noticed the grass was much greener than it was 2 weeks ago, and saw buds on a lot of trees! It made me excited to know that warmer weather is around the corner!

So, yes, while I find I sometimes struggle to break out of the vacation bubble, I know there’s much to be celebrated about getting back to reality.

Do you find it hard to get back into the swing of things after vacation? How do you snap out of it!?

Nice to have you back home in RI… also nice to see that you (like your Mother), appreciate the simple things in life that many people take for granted. Like the green grass and an impromptu dinner with family. That’s what makes the seemingly unimportant moments so specially important.
