Daily Diary: How you Mother when You’re Sick

Daily Diary: How you Mother when You’re Sick

I have been sick with this flu since Saturday.

I felt it coming on when I woke up, but I didn’t stop to rest.  I had a CCD meeting with William, a swim meet for 3 of the boys and a date night set up with Matt (along with the boys spending the night at my parents house). Truth be told, I didn’t want to stop, I had been looking forward to Saturday ALL week long.  But… by the time I was out to dinner with Matt at 4:45PM (we were like 80 year olds going out so early!), I felt like I was going to fall over, yet I still sat through dinner and still kept our movie plans.

Putting it lightly, when I woke up Sunday morning, I was fried. I couldn’t move. Aches. Chills. Headache. Sneezing like crazy. I looked horrible and I felt horrible!

My husband has been a trooper, doing everything.  I’ve been useless on the couch, just trying to help out where I am.  Today my husband had a few things he needed to do in the morning and then this evening, I needed to stay home with the boys… and believe me, when you’re down with the flu, there are just certain ways you need to mother.

Case in point #1)  YOU LET YOUR KIDS DRESS THEMSELVES FOR SCHOOL

HE’S WEARING BEN’S SHIRT, WILLIAM’S HAT AND ALEX’S SHOES.

Case in point #2) THEY SNEAK THEIR STUFFED ANIMALS INTO THEIR BACKPACK FOR SCHOOL

HENRY GRABBED “TEDDY” FOR SCHOOL.

Case in point #3) YOU WATCH HONEY BOO BOO…

AND LISTEN ALL NIGHT AS THE BOYS KEEP ASKING, “BUT WHO IS THIS?”

Case in point #4) YOU MAKE DINNER OUT OF A CAN…

AND HOPE EVERYONE’S HAPPY

Case in point #5) YOU LET THEM PLAY ON THEIR DEVICES ALL AFTERNOON LONG

JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE TOO WEAK TO CHASE THEM AROUND OR PLAY OUTSIDE.

I can’t wait to be back to 100%!

You make dinner out of a can.

Love it! Feel better! I find that the kids are sometimes better when you don’t feel well. It is as if they sense the need to help you. 🙂

Sometimes, Mom just needs to let things fall where they may. I hope you feel better really soon!! The flu is terrible on its own, but the flu while pregnant? Ugh. Rest up and get better! xo

I went through this last week! Unfortunately, my 9 month old can’t dress herself or feed herself yet haha

Get some rest, and I hope you feel better soon!!

Audrey, I hope you are back to your old self soon. Think of this time (minus the aches, fever, chills, and all that) as a much-needed break. Your boys are so adorable and I love how they dress themselves. They want you to get better soon! Cheers to mommy getting her rest and letting her fam eat dinner from a can. You are a rock star and deserve a break!

Thank you so much for sharing, I can totally relate. Your post made me think of some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten: When you’re in crisis, lower your standards. When the crisis is over, raise them again!

Oh no Audrey, I hope you feel better soon! Trying to mother when you’re that sick is nearly impossible. And you’re right, you just do what you gotta do! Looks like you got it done as best you could and the kids seemed to enjoy it, haha 🙂

I hate that you got this nasty flu going around, particularly since you can’t take the strong drugs while pregnant!! I hope you’re feeling MUCH better! XXOO
