With Memorial Day only 3 days away, I’m getting more and more in summer mode. For me, Memorial Day has always been the “start” of summer.

As every fashionista knows… with summer, we all need some fabulous sunglasses!

Best Sunglasses for Womens Face Shape

Foster Grant has some amazing tips on how to find the best sunglasses for the shape of your face.  I’m excited to share these tips from Matthew Coon, FGX Director of Creative Development, Global Fashion & Trend.

How to Choose the Best Sunglasses for Womens Face Shape:

SQUARE FACE:  If you have a face with a strong jawline, square chin, and broad forehead, try sunglasses that are rounded or oval in contrast to the angular lines of the face.

OVAL FACE:  An oval face has mostly balanced proportions.  The chin is slightly narrower than the forehead and the cheekbones tend to be high.  Lucky you! Most sunglasses shapes are flattering on an oval face. Square, rectangular and geometric shapes will add angles to the soft curves of the face.

ROUND FACE: Width and length proportions are typically the same with a round face. Avoid round sunglasses.  Look instead for angular, geometric shapes that sharpen facial features.  Rectangular and horizontal styles will make faces appear longer and thinner.

HEART FACE: A broad forehead and wide cheekbones that narrow to a small chin constitute a heart-shaped face.  Trendy cat-eye styles or butterfly shapes will flatter this face type. Round frames will help soften the forehead, while bottom-heavy frames will balance the narrower chin.

And if you’re looking to find out the trends for sunglasses this summer, Matthew also dished on what will be trending the most!

What are the trends for sunglasses this summer?
This year, we’ll see a return to the classic and vintage shapes of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.  The Cateye shape continues while the trendsetter will be looking for the return of the Round.  And of course, the Aviator continues to be the perfect look for those who want trend and timeless in one look.

Color continues to play an important role but in a more updated and sophisticated way.  Two-tones, full-color lining, and rich tort finishes are of particular interest.  Classic lens colors will emphasize deep saturated tones in greens, grays, and browns, while trend lens colors will be in deep mirror tones in blues, greens, and reds.  And new for this year is the platinum mirror coating which adds a rich luster and is perfect for reflecting those bright summer rays.

For detailing, look for textured metal, etched surfaces, and perforations.  Integrated metal details and subtle styling cues are of particular influence as a more pared-down aesthetic makes it a comeback.  Global influences in prints and coloration pair nicely with the classic black and white statement and modified tort finishes.

Are you ready to sport your sunglasses!?
