Pressing questions from older brothers about their new baby sister…

Questions about the new baby sister…

Last Tuesday, July 9th, was a very happy day in the life and love of our family.

Of course, as the Mom of the expectant Mommy and Grandma to the greatly anticipated baby girl, Victoria, I was a tiny bit beyond anxious to learn “the news” as I helped supervise the baby’s 4 older siblings, 4 brothers (ages 5, 6, 7, 8), at a morning swim meet.

I really don’t know how I stayed as calm as I did, albeit checking my phone every 10 or so seconds for updates from my son-in-law, Matt. First update was that my daughter Audrey’s C-section had been delayed due to a couple of emergencies.  That’s OK.  Taking care of emergencies in a maternity hospital is crucial.

OK.

Next message was that Audrey was being prepped.

Nice.

My head was swimming with excitement, anticipation and, of course, beautiful prayers for a perfect delivery.

The boys finished event after event after event, coming often to ask if Daddy had texted yet.

Nope.  But soon!

Potato chips were consumed.  Bacon was bought.  Tootsie Pops from Matt’s Mom were unwrapped and devoured.  Cheese Doodles were allowed.  What?!  At a swim meet?  Yep. This morning, anything goes.

Then that little ding from my cell phone.

And a photo.

A photo of our beautiful, perfect, pink-hatted granddaughter, newly arrived…

… with a message to not post yet.  Matthew wanted to be the first.  Of course and absolutely.

My heart sang with great JOY as Victoria’s brothers gathered around my phone for a first peek at their baby sister.

They were thrilled.  Joyful.  Smiles from ear to ear happy.

Then another cell phone ding.

A photo of MY baby, my Audrey, with HER beautiful baby girl… with a smile from forever ago and into eternity…

The boys smiled even bigger and wider and more joyful.

My heart relaxed.

Then came a couple of pressing questions from 6-year old Benjamin and 5-year old Henry; questions that just HAD to be texted to Daddy right then and there…

Where these questions came from is as big a mystery as where babies come from.

Bald?

Red head?

Will she cry at home?

As sweet.

As innocent.

As important.

As pressing.

The discoveries of LIFE and its great questions are often in the minds and hearts of little guys on a very, very special day…

A very, very special day.

Such a lucky girl to have four brothers like that. Most definitely love at first sight, judging by the picture!
