Let the Training Begin: How to Train for a 1/2 Marathon

training for a 1/2 marathon

The month of March was all about getting my body ready to start training for something. I wasn’t sure what for, but I knew I needed a goal of some sorts for myself.

The month of April has been all about getting my body really ready for training hardcore. I’ve trained for a 1/2 marathon before and I’m going to be honest, I never stuck to the plan. I did a little of that. I did a little of this. And I just hoped I finished. I did finish the 1/2 marathon race, but I didn’t even care about my time. I just wanted to complete it, have it done.

This time around, I actually want to care about my time/my race/my goal.

I’m training for a 1/2 Marathon that will take place on August 17th. There’s also one in July, too… so I might do both, I just have to see about my work schedule.

Since my new blog is up… 🙂 I thought it would be fun to keep myself accountable here. To everyone. No pressure, right? My good friend Nadia from Childmode.com and I have been addicted to fitness and inspiration and well-being information for the last couple of months now. We’ve been motivating each other and keeping it real for each other. We started Live Love Shape about a month ago as a little pet project, but it’s really turned into something we love. So I will be sharing all of my blog posts there, too.

So without further adieu… and this diary is one from a mom of 5. I don’t have a set schedule every single day. There are days I can’t workout and I just have to be OK with that. My life is crazy and busy and non-stop, only other mothers will understand that, so working out… it’s being creative to find the time to do it.

This past weekend while we were away in Pittsburgh, I knew I needed (and wanted) to get a workout in. My husband lives in a town called Pleasant Hills. Yes. HILLS. I wanted to die. The whole freaking town is hills! It was insanity! But I got my workout in.

10 minutes of running
5 minutes of walking (hills)
10 minutes of running
5 minutes of the fastest pace I could do (flat)
5 minutes walk

I was able to do a total of 2.5 miles. Nothing huge and gigantic, but I got it in.

Sunday (yesterday) was a travel day. I knew I couldn’t get a good workout in, so you know what I ended up doing? I wore my highest heels and I wore them ALL DAY LONG. I swear, my legs hurt more after the day in heels then they did after running.

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do, right!?
