Holiday Gifts to Keep Your Children Active!

Keeping kids active is one of my main goals as a parent and health/fitness blogger, so I put together a list of toys that I think are great gift ideas to help keep your children moving! I don’t have anything against toys with screens, but I think it’s important to make sure our children get plenty of physical activity.

Healthy Toys for Kids

Here are some of my favorite active toys:

Bicycoo (with Noodle)— This balance bike is perfect for children who are too old for a tricycle, but not quite at the independent bike riding stage. Kids learn to balance on the bike, making it easier when they switch to a bike with pedals! The Noodle is a great kids helmet that helps to encourage safety from the start!

Tricycoo— The Tricycoo can be used with kids as young as 18 months (there are baby surround arms to keep your toddler feeling safe and secure). They can pedal on their own, or the pedals can be disengaged and a parent can push. It can grow with your child as he/she develops balance and coordination.

LeapBand™— I got a glimpse of this cool little gadget this past summer. This smart watch helps encourage your child to stay physically active by completing challenges . They can earn points for healthy behaviors. The points can help unlock rewards. The watch is rechargeable and has parental controls.

Spooner Board— This is a great option for older kids who want to work on skills like sliding, flipping, riding, and spinning—skills that will help them in skateboarding and snowboarding. The Spooner Board helps with core strength, leg strength, balance, and coordination.

ABOUT JESSICA FROM 30 SOMETHING MOTHER RUNNER :
Screen Shot 2014-07-30 at 8.57.23 AM
I am a thirty-something mother runner to three crazy (but very lovable) young boys and a lazy greyhound, living the beach life on Cape Cod.I was once asked whether I run to keep up with the boys or to run away, and I guess I would say it’s a little of both! As a mother and a runner, I believe strongly in living a healthy, active life. I started 30 Something Mother Runner to connect with other moms (and dads!) who run, but it has morphed into something much larger. In addition to running, I enjoy writing about healthy eating, healthy parenting, kids’ activities and toys, technology—basically a little bit of everything! I love to work with companies that also promote a healthy and fit lifestyle. I am an ambassador for the ZOOMA women’s race series, For Two Fitness®, Stable 26, and Headsweats. I love sharing my passion for running and healthy living with the wonderful community I have found through this blog. When I’m not on the blog or on a run, you can find me on Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, and via email at 30somethingmotherrunner[at]gmail[dot]com.
