With summer (almost) over… yes, almost… I’ve really loved keeping the boys in their reading routines. Even though it’s the summer and there’s no school, it’s been wonderful seeing them get lost in a book and really become invested in certain reads and authors. As a mom, it’s the best thing you can see for your kids – love of reading!

I partnered with Scholastic and the iconic Energizer Bunny this summer to help get the boys reading even more this summer! Now in its 9th year, the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free online reading program dedicated to stopping the “summer slide” by encouraging kids to read throughout the summer months when school is out. This year’s challenge theme is “Power Up & Read,” powered by ENERGIZER®. They – together – have created the “Power Up & Read” Summer Reading Challenge! It’s been so much fun partnering with them throughout the summer, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it! Parents were able to sign up their kids beginning on May 4, 2015 and the program runs through September 4, 2015.

Throughout July, we’ve been having a ton reading with the boys with a fabulous “Power Up & Read” Kit that Scholastic sent us! We have been celebrating Summer Reading with the Energizer Bunny! Our “Power Up & Read” Kit included a plush Energizer Bunny® for us to take with us on reading adventures throughout the month of July. Our kit additionally included an Energizer Bunny® table stand decoration and foam Energizer Bunny® ears.

The extra fun part for the boys was that our Kit additionally included 3 red, sealed packages – each containing a fun surprise to help with our weekly photo challenges. We had a BLAST throughout the month reading with the Energizer Bunny and snapping away! It became a true treat for the boys to open up the package and see what was “hiding!”

Let me bring you through our July as a fun recap! My boys had a true blast! Each week they couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for them!!

1st Week Challenge: Red sunglasses were in the red, sealed package!

3rd Week Challenge: A Scholastic Tote Bag was in the red, sealed package!

Love road trips and reading! They started to read before we left!! Thank you to Scholastic for the amazing selections you offer kids! Love the Energizer Bunny , too!!

In an effort to log as many minutes as possible through the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge AND to break the world record for summer reading, Scholastic is setting special weekly goals for young readers. Every Monday Scholastic will be announcing a #MondayMinutesGoal, the number of minutes for kids to read together in one week (by the following Monday).

Whether your child or student is reading independently aloud or together with you, share their success and keep the momentum going!

Great ways to get involved?

Here are a few:

– Have your child log his/her minutes on the SRC website or on a paper log/piece of paper
– Take a picture of him/her proudly displaying their minutes
– Share it on social using #MondayMinutesGoal and #SummerReading!
