Grandparenting ~~ Are there rules?
Pop-up and I are expecting our 12th grandchild, a baby girl, due in May.
This little girl will join 1 brother, 3 girl cousins and 7 boys cousins.
A dozen personalities.
A dozen gigglers.
A dozen sets of interests.
A dozen Gifts from Heaven!
Pop-up and I are, I think, quite relaxed around our grandkids… not too tough, not too easy, maybe just right. Like the stuff of “the 3 bears.”
I know we buy their favorite ice-cream flavors, each different, and have been known to make midnight adventures to the milk store for such treats.
I know we buy their favorite snacks, each different. Ditto: Above.
I know we let our 2-year old granddaughter drink iced coffee.
I know “Pop-up’s Pancakes” come with chocolate morsels, M & M’s, real butter, mounds of whipped cream, piles of bacon and maple syrup — generally before 7:00 am.
I know we buy them lottery scratch tickets just because they like them.
I know we have a million night-lights and a million pillows and a million blankets for sleepovers.
I know we have a million t-shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, pants, hats, mittens, gloves in case theirs get dirty or wet or lost during visits or sleepovers.
I know we have a garage filled with sporting and fun equipment of every kind, to include sidewalk chalk, butterfly catchers and gardening tools.
I know we let them stay up way too late.
I know we let them watch television shows like Impractical Jokers and movies like Dumb & Dumber and YouTube Videos that I cannot even mention.
I know we allow them to play in our (very safe) driveway well after dark.
I know that they know that we believe in magic and ghosts and angels and rainbows.
I know we tell them stories and jokes that make them laugh.
I know that I may be a bit more over the top and a bit more over the edge than Pop-up when it comes to stories and jokes that make them laugh.
And SO much more.
But what’s really, really most important of all is that THEY know THIS…
Pop-up, my partner in crime, gave this little gem to me for Valentine’s Day… because he knows that I know what they know, too!
Thanks, Honey, because I wouldn’t be able to pull off all this fun, adventure and magic of Grandparenting without YOU by my crazy side!
