I can answer the question How to clean Crocs easily because it was something that I wondered about for years. I’m someone who likes to keep my shoe closet clean and our shoes smelling as good as good can be. As you can imagine with a large family, it’s a lot of shoes and a lot of smells. It’s a good idea to make sure cleaning your shoes is part of your cleaning routine.

Crocs became our “thing” pretty early on. I feel like my kids have worn Crocs since they could first learn to walk, I don’t remember a time when we didn’t have them in our shoe closet.

It’s actually a funny story, but when the boys were baptized (which we did when they were a little older) they wore Crocs to their own Baptism.

Fast forward to the present day these “little” boys are 11, 13, 14, and 15 and my daughter is 6 years old. The reason I’ve always loved them to have classic rubber Crocs is that they’re easy on and easy off AND they’re waterproof. We’re swimmers year-round, so I love that the Crocs are such a practical shoe style for my kids.

(1) Washing Machine – I’m not kidding. I literally wash our Crocs right in the washing machine! I add a little bit of liquid detergent (literally just a touch) and then wash them on a quick or gentle cycle. It doesn’t matter if you use cold water or hot water. If the Crocs have fur lining, take the lining out and then clean. It’s important to clean the inside of the shoe, too.

The best part is that they wash up super quickly and super well. Sometimes I’ll add in an item of smaller clothing to cut down on the shoe banging, but other than that it’s as simple as tossing them in and that’s it! Do a normal cycle or even a quick cycle for them. I normally pop a few pairs of Crocs in at a time.

Once they’re done washing through the machine take them outside and let them air dry. The sun is my best friend when it comes to drying the Crocs.

If it’s the wintertime or it’s raining, just leave them out with a towel under them in your house for a quick clean. It’s as easy as that. They will look as good as new!

For the record – our Crocs have never warped while washing them in the washing machine. I know there can be extreme heat or high heat in the wash, but we’ve never had a problem. I think the key is either a quick cycle or a gentle cycle.

(2) Sponge and Scrub – This one requires you to buy a sponge with a green scrubber side. You really need to make sure it has that green side or if you just have a scrubber or scrub brush in general for dishwashing. I would suggest something stronger than a paper towel for cleaning. If you don’t have a scrubber, grab a damp cloth or damp rag to clean Crocs. I’ve even seen an old toothbrush used.

Take your scrubber and add one of these three things to it:

1. Comet

2. Dish Liquid (any dish detergent)

3. Laundry Detergent

I want to give you options here. I know that not everyone has Comet laying around, which is my top choice for this way of cleaning your Crocs. Add one of these to the scrubber and then use some elbow grease and go to town! Scrub away and you will see pretty quickly a change in the look of your Crocs. I like this option because there aren’t any harsh chemicals used.

You don’t need to use tons of product to clean. Just get a good lather. This is great thing to do on classic Crocs and an easy way to wash Crocs because anyone can do this one.

Set them outside to dry once you’ve scrubbed them good! I do this with my kids Crocs maybe every 2-3 weeks in the summer. They wear them everywhere, so they always need a good scrubbing. If you have lighter color Crocs, this is even more essential to do because it will brighten them back up again!

(3) Soak in a Bucket Overnight – This is one way you can do it if you just want to set them aside for the night and not think about it. Fill up a bucket with clean water and add some detergent or dish soap right in there, too. Mix it up so it’s a good solution/mixture. Pop in the Crocs that you want to clean. Let them sit overnight in the bucket. If you use your Crocs for daily activities, you could do this once a week.

Once you wake up – take a rag, clean cloth, or sponge and quickly take them out and just go over them with a good wash to get any remaining dirt off. Do a good job going over each Croc. This won’t be as effective as the top two, but you won’t always need to scrub away at your Crocs. Sometimes you just might want to kill a smell or two. You won’t get the best results, but this is the easiest way to clean and set aside.

When done just let them air dry and allow all the excess water to dry from them.

As a bonus, I’ve heard people have luck with a clean magic eraser. Just take the time to go over each pair of Crocs with it. You could also try a baking soda paste. These are just quick hacks that you can do on your own.
